ENDFOREND TUCKBURY SPLICE 12STRAND CLASS II The TuckBury splice is designed as a short splice for Class II 12strand ropes only Additional rope needed for splice 134 fid lengths plus length of eye with thimble 134 fid lengths plus 1 12 circumference in feet MEASURE AND MARK STEP Tape the ends of the ropes to be spliced Lay the Ropes A and B sidebyside and measure 112 tubular fid lengths if using a wire fid measure three fid lengths because Mark 2 Mark 1 wire fids are half size from the taped end of each line and make Mark 1 1A 134 Fids 112 Fids From Mark 1 measure 134 fid lengths and make Mark 2 on both lines 2STEP TA P E R T H E TA I L S At Mark 1 pull out 3 Sstrands and 3 Zstrands half the strands by rotating around the rope pulling out strands in the pattern shown in the picture Zstrand twist Sstrand clockwise twist Mark 1 BitterEnd Bitter End This should leave six strands still braided down the middle Tightly tape the ends of the six individual strands and the end of the remaining braided portion You should have two Sstrands and one Zstrand on one side and two Zstrands and one Sstrand on the other side s z s Mark 1 3 z Rope A s z z REPOSITION THE ROPES sSTEP z Reposition the ropes for splicing according to the diagram Mark 1 s z Rope B s 4 s z EP BURY THE TAIL OF ROPE A INTO ROPE B sST Rope A From Rope A pass the three closest strands to Rope B through Rope B one or two picks down from Mark 1 Do not pull strands all the way through at this stage z s Rope B z 4A Bury the remaining braided strands down Mark 1 the center of the rope entering at Mark 1 s and exiting at Mark 2 The tail should enter z the standing part of the rope at the same s point where the three loose strands passed through Pull the tail out at Mark 2 Rope A Rope B Mark 2 Mark 1 PAGE 1 OF 2 2090 Thornton Street T 3603844669 20062008 Samson Rope Technologies All rights reserved Ferndale WA USA 98248 F 3603840572 ENDFOREND TUCKBURY SPLICE 12STRAND CLASS II 5STEP TA P E R T H E TA I L Pull tails to tighten crossover Then smooth Rope A tail inserted into rope B Smooth Smooth braid in both directions away from the crossover Now cut off tailsTaper end of tail by cutting Crossover Rope B tail inserted across at 45 angle into rope A Give a final smoothing away from crossover stroking rope firmly Tails should bury inside cover s z z s s z z s s z z s 6 TUCK THE STRANDS zSTEP Tuck the strands from Rope A into Rope B One complete s z tuck consists of passing a strand over one strand and under two strands Do three complete tucks for all six strands Each strand is always tucked under the same line of the braid so that the tucks progress straight down the body of the rope s After completing the first three tucks remove half the z s volume of the twisted yarns from each of the six strands near the taped ends and complete three more tucks with the reducedvolume strands z s z s z s 7 FINISH THE SPLICE STEP After completing the second set of three tucks cut off the excess material and tape the ends Leave enough of an end protruding so it does not slip back into the rope when the rope is loaded Follow Steps 5 and 6 until all tails are tucked Your finished TuckBury EndforEnd Splice will look like the picture PAGE 2 OF 2 2090 Thornton Street T 3603844669 20062008 Samson Rope Technologies All rights reserved Ferndale WA USA 98248 F 3603840572
