area forecast discussion
national weather service tampa bay ruskin fl
146 pm edt Fri oct 19 2018

Short term (tonight-Saturday)
Ridging aloft over the state will settle a bit south on
Saturday as a trough approaches from the nw. Surface ridging
will build in from the NE as a boundary in place across the
area dissipates tonight. That high will then shift off to
the NE as a cold front pushes into the deep south Saturday.

A few showers storms will be possible Saturday afternoon
mainly north of interstate 4. Lows tonight in the upper 60s
to mid 70s. Highs Saturday in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Long term (Saturday night-Friday)
A short wave trough moving off the mid atlantic coast will
help to drive a cold front south through the forecast area
late Saturday night and early on Sunday. Adequate moisture
should support some isolated showers along and ahead of the
front followed by cooler and drier air advecting into the
region on Sunday on a breezy north to northeast wind flow as
strong surface high pressure builds toward the mid atlantic
coast in the wake of the front.

On Monday surface high pressure along the mid atlantic coast
will provide pleasant dry weather across the forecast area
through Tuesday as the high weakens and shifts eastward
into the atlantic with a lighter easterly wind flow expected
across the region.

During Wednesday through Friday models show a weak area of
low pressure developing along a stalled frontal boundary
over the western gulf. As this low develops and moves
northeast along the northern gulf coast the stalled frontal
boundary draped across south florida and the florida straits
will begin to lift back to the north as a warm front. As
the front lifts northward deeper moisture associated with it
(pw's increasing toward 2 inches) will spread north into
west central florida. This moisture combined with the front
and some additional upper level energy traversing the region
from the gulf will lead to increasing rain chances across
the forecast area, with the possibility of some locally
heavy rain during Thursday and Friday as these features
affect the region.

Well above normal temperatures of late will fall back to
near seasonal norms through the period with overnight lows
ranging from the lower 60s (maybe even some upper 50s at
the start of the period) across the nature coast, to the mid
and upper 60s central and south with daytime highs in the
lower to mid 80s.

Aviation
E SE winds will turn onshore at the coastal terminals later
this afternoon withVFR conditions expected. Winds become
light and variable for the overnight hours as skies clear
out. Easterly flow then returns for Saturday morning.

Marine
Easterly flow will continue with an afternoon sea breeze
near the coast through Saturday. A cold front will then
push through the waters and stall across the southern waters
or just to the south early Monday. Winds will quickly turn
to the NE and increase to near advisory levels with the
front, then shift more to the east Monday. Winds then
subside Tuesday, but flow remains generally easterly through
the rest of the period. Mariners will want to monitor
conditions for Sunday Monday.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
