SHORT TERM
(This evening through Friday night)
Issued at 315 PM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024
High pressure and ridging dominate the upper level pattern.
Northerly surface winds will persist through tomorrow morning, keeping drier and less humid conditions in place. Temperatures are forecast to be in the low 70s for highs and lows in the mid to upper 40s for much of the area. The NBM temperatures line up well with model guidance, so no major changes were made in the temperatures from the NBM.
Winds shift southerly Friday into Saturday, which will start to reintroduce moisture and humidity into the environment. Highs Friday are forecast in the upper 70s with lows Saturday morning in the mid 50s. The NBM temperatures line up well with model guidance, so no major changes were made in the forecast from NBM.
No rain is expected tonight through Saturday morning, looking at the models. MSW
LONG TERM
(Saturday through Wednesday night)
Issued at 315 PM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024
Ridging looks to keep hold over our area Sunday and Monday. This will keep us unseasonably warm (~10 degrees above average) and dry going into the next week. In fact, temps were upped from deterministic NBM to blend towards the 50th percentile to account for this pattern.
The next system looks to impact the area on Tuesday. It's far out, but current indications is that most of the rain will stay to the north as the trough ejects over the Great Lakes region. That system will send a cold front down here and knock temps slightly below average while maybe producing scattered showers. After that, we return to dry spring conditions!
