Synopsis A fast-moving weather system will move across the
southern coastal waters tonight bringing a chance of rain mainly
for the southern portions of the central coast. A warming trend
and dry weather conditions are expected late in the week and
through the upcoming weekend.

Discussion As of 9:00 pm pdt Wednesday... The low pressure
system we have been tracking is located 150 miles west of san
francisco and is moving SE at 30 kts. The clouds shield associated
with the low has also tracked SE nearly parallel to the coast. It
now appears the sfo bay area will miss out completely on the
rain. The santa cruz mountains also looks less likely to get any
rain as well as the interior of monterey and san benito counties.

The mry bay area and big sur coast still have a chance of getting
the fringes of the rain and even that is in question. Will
continue to monitor the progress of the low pressure system. A
couple of lightning strikes were reported over the outer waters so
have included a slight chance of thunderstorms in the southern
coastal waters but not over land.

The system will quickly move into southern california early
Thursday morning. Dry conditions with slightly warmer temperatures
are expected for Thursday. Surface high builds off the california
coast and ridges into the pacific northwest Thursday night and
Friday bringing a light offshore flow while an upper level ridge
moves over the western states. Temperatures will warm up more
significantly Friday and Saturday with highs getting into the mid
80s in the warmest inland locations. This weather pattern then
persists into the first part of next week.

Aviation As of 10:43 pm pdt Wednesday... For 06z tafs. Looks
like circulation around the offshore low is bringing drier air
into the bay area terminals. Latest trends suggestVFR overnight
into Thursday morning. Winds should be light with high pressure
building and no marine layer in the wake of the weak front.

Vicinity of ksfo... Mainly just some mid and high clouds around
overnight. Some concern that a low cloud could set up inside the
bay by morning but right now trends are looking positive forVFR
conditions to start the day Thursday.

Sfo bridge approach... Similar to ksfo.

Monterey bay terminals... Rain band is just west of kmry terminal
but dissipating and dropping due south towards big sur. Some
concern for some lingering low clouds early but mainly forecasting
vfr conditions to get things started Thursday morning.

Marine As of 10:38 pm pdt Wednesday... A weak system will pass
through the southern waters overnight. Winds will increase behind
the cold front and become northwest by Thursday morning. Strong
and gusty northwest winds will then continue the rest of the week
and into the weekend over a moderate NW swell with fresh seas
building off CAPE mendocino.

I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
