Synopsis
Dry weather with locally breezy northerly winds expected through
early next week.

Discussion
Afternoon visible satellite imagery showed most regions devoid of
cloud cover outside of some high clouds sweeping through the
northern zones. Otherwise, the clear skies have uncovered the
abundant snow cover filling out the sierra and southern cascade
ranges. Overall, the next several days will be dry and at times
cloud-free as an offshore upper ridge drifts slowly to the east.

During the next couple of days, a pair of shortwaves are expected
to push through the pacific northwest and dive southeastward into
the central great basin. The main impact from these features will
be an increase in winds as northerly flow picks up across valley
locations Thursday afternoon. Wind gusts north of sacramento could
reach the 25 to 30 mph range at times before gradients eventually
weaken. Otherwise, except for the potential for valley fog the
next couple mornings from sacramento down to modesto, tranquil
conditions will encompass the region. High temperatures should
reach the mid upper 60s over most of the lower elevations this
weekend as the 588-dm mid-level ridge settles overhead. Bro
.Extended discussion (Sunday through Wednesday)
continued warmth is anticipated in spite of the prominent upper
ridge undergoing some weakening trend. The most noteworthy system
of interest will be a sharpened trough diving through utah on
Monday which favors modestly strong offshore pressure gradients.

Thus, expect a return of gusty north-northwesterly winds on Monday
into early Tuesday in response to this shift in the pattern.

Offshore upper ridging should return through mid-week although
temperatures will likely be cooler than the weekend. Looking
further ahead, model guidance are at odds with timing and
intensity, but there are hints at precipitation returning by
february 1st. Bro

Aviation
High pressure will lead to mostlyVFR conditions over the next 24
hours. There is some uncertainty as to whether or not fog will
form this morning, so we'll be keeping a close eye on TAF sites
from smf southwards.

Sto watches warnings advisories
None.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
