fresh to strong northerly winds will diminish into the night and will become moderate on Thursday. After a few days of favorable conditions, a cold frontal passage will bring the return of a strong northerly breeze on Saturday. These winds will help build rough seas in the outer waters by Sunday.

Warm and dry weather continues through the week. Locally breezy at times.

Discussion
Latest GOES-West visible satellite imagery shows some high level clouds passing over interior northern California on this Wednesday afternoon. Warm and dry conditions are being observed across the area, thanks to upper level ridging. Temperature observations are currently in the upper 60s to mid 70s in the Valley, 60s to low 70s in the foothills, and 50s to 60s in the mountains, valid at 1215 PM PDT. These temperatures are trending approximately 2 to 8 degrees warmer than this time yesterday afternoon. Locally breezy northerly winds are being observed mainly in the northern and central Sacrameno Valley as a trough exits the Pacific Northwest.
Wind gusts of 15 to 25 mph are being observed, and will taper off this afternoon and evening.

Upper level ridging will continue to be the main synoptic feature the rest of this week, bringing a slight day to day warming trend and above normal daytime high temperatures. Valley highs will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s, with 70s to near 80 in the foothills, and 50s to 70s in the mountains. Additional high clouds may move through later this week as a weak wave of energy passes by to the south, with increased onshore flow Friday and Saturday. Overall pleasant weather conditions are in the forecast for the next several days, as HeatRisk remains in the minor category.

.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Sunday THROUGH Wednesday)...
Ensembles and clusters indicate high pressure ridging remaining over NorCal Sunday and Monday with warm temperatures from 5 to 10 degrees above normal. A trough may approach the area late Monday and then move through the area Tuesday and Wednesday. This will bring cooler, but still near normal temperatures. This system looks to be on the dry side with less than 10 percent precip chances over the mountains and dry over the Valley.

AVIATION
VFR conditions next 24 hours. Areas of northerly surface wind gusts 15-25 kts northern mountains and northern Sacramento Valley, then light winds this evening.
