SYNOPSIS. A strong cold front will continue to shift eastward this afternoon as high pressure builds back in from the west. High pressure will remain in control of the region through early next week, resulting in dry and near seasonable weather.

NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/. The cold front associated with the abundance of rainfall earlier today has moved off to our east this afternoon. A few light remnant showers persist across portions of the Eastern Shore, including Cecil county. These showers will continue to exit the area this afternoon as high pressure begins to build back into the region from the west.

Clouds are beginning to clear this afternoon behind the FROPA, except for along the Alleghenies where some upslope flow is continuing. However expect sky cover to continue to dissipate through early this evening.

In terms of temperatures, highs today will remain in the low to mid 70s for most, cooler across the higher terrain. Much cooler conditions are expected overnight with lows in the low to mid 40s, slightly warmer across the metros.

SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/. Quiet weather is expected to continue through the weekend as high pressure remains in control. Seasonable temperatures are expected with highs in the mid 70s and lows near 50.

LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/. A period of quiet weather is expected throughout much of the long term. High pressure will be in control early next week with temperatures near or slightly below normal. Mainly dry conditions with predominately sunny skies should prevail.

The next opportunity for precipitation arrives on Tuesday as a weak cold front moves towards the region. Moisture does appear to be limited with this feature, thus have continued slight chance/chance POPs for the time being. Temperatures on Tuesday will be the warmest of the long term, with most locations outside the higher terrain reaching a high near 80. A region of Canadian high pressure will return Wednesday through the end of the week bringing temperatures down a few degrees. Currently no frost/freeze concerns in the long term except for the typical elevated valleys of the Allegheny Mountains later next week.

AVIATION /17Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/. With the cold front east of the terminals, mainly VFR conditions are expected to resume through early next week. Clouds will continue to gradually diminish through this evening as high pressure settles overhead. W/NW flow will continue through tomorrow before becoming more southerly by early Saturday. A dry cold front will then cross the terminals by Saturday evening, resulting in another wind shift to the west.

Otherwise dry and VFR conditions are expected to continue throughout much of next week.

MARINE. Quiet conditions resume over the water this afternoon. However a second pressure surge is expected early this evening which will cause an uptick in wind gusts. As a result, Small Craft Advisories will resume for portions of the waters this evening through early Friday morning.

High pressure over the waters will continue through the weekend, leading to generally light winds. However winds could approach SCA criteria Sunday afternoon as the gradient tightens and high pressure builds to the south. The winds should relax some, but remain out of the west early next week as the region of high pressure moves offshore.

TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING. While additional instances of coastal flooding are expected during high tide through tonight, tidal anamolies will continue to decrease through this weekend under a W/NW flow.
