AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill MO 606 PM CST Tue Nov 30 2021

Discussion. Issued at 329 PM CST TUE NOV 30 2021

It is a tale of two pressure systems across the area today. A leeward trough is making its way across OK while at the same time a small high is hanging out over NW MO. This has resulted in a convergence zone between the two systems bringing cloudy skies over much of KS and MO. The most robust area of convergence is through the southern counties of the CWA where satellite imagery shows the coolest cloud tops. Vertical profiles show a fairly saturated layer above roughly 6000ft complimented by an immense dry layer from there to the surface. This results in most precipitation evaporating before it reaches the surface. A few areas to the south may see some sprinkles or isolated rain drops, but that will be about the extent of precipitation this afternoon. As the waves make their way through the region overnight, some isolated sprinkles/showers may develop in the northeast corner of the CWA NE of Kirksville.

With both waves vacating the area, surface flow once again orients out of the southwest propelling warm air into the region. This combined with relatively clear skies, diurnal heating, and cool, dry upper level flow sets up for a warming trend more akin to meteorological spring than winter. Temperatures Wednesday rebound into the 60s before cresting around 70F Thursday. As has been said before, the Thursday record of 70F has good potential to be broken. Following this, a large clipper moves by New England lowering temperatures along the east coast and in turn drags our temperatures downward toward more seasonal norms. Models continue to hint at wholesale pattern changes toward the weekend with a substantial cold front sweeping through lowering temperatures toward the mid 30s early next week. The moisture transport pattern also looks to change presenting our area with more opportunities for precipitation mid to late next week.

Aviation. (For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Wednesday Evening) Issued at 605 PM CST TUE NOV 30 2021

VFR conditions are expected through the period. Light and variable winds tonight will become westerly around 7 knots by Wednesday morning.
