SHORT TERM. (Issued 337 AM CDT Tue Sep 28 2021)

Today through Wednesday Night:

May see patchy ground fog in low lying areas early this morning, though dew point depressions should remain large enough to limit more fog development.

High pressure over northern Lake Michigan will slowly move to the east during this period, providing dry conditions to the area. Onshore winds during this period will bring cooler temperatures near Lake Michigan today and Wednesday, with warm temperatures lingering inland.

Given mostly sunny skies expected today, highs should reach into the upper 70s to around 80 inland, with upper 60s to lower 70s lakeside. Wednesday highs should be a little warmer, with lower to middle 80s inland, and 70s lakeside. Lows tonight should drop into the middle to upper 40s inland, with 50s lakeside, with some radiational cooling taking place. There may be patchy fog in low lying areas as well. Milder lows in the 50s are anticipated for Wednesday night.

Thursday through Monday:

The high amplitude upper ridge will be centered over WI on Thu, but the Omega block will break down afterwards. The upper pattern will remain meridional but disorganized, with various vorticity maximums roaming the center of the country. Some of the shortwave troughs and sfc troughs will likely move across the region during the weekend into next week. Low PoPs for showers and storms are forecast, with plenty of uncertainty on timing. Temps will remain above normal, but with a gradual cooling trend. Humidity will increase.

AVIATION. (Issued 1011 AM CDT Tue Sep 28 2021)

Some ceilings around 1300 feet are impacting far southeast Wisconsin this morning. These should scatter out by the afternoon with VFR conditions expected through the rest of today. Winds will be light with high pressure over the area, which could result in more ground fog in low lying areas tonight into Wednesday morning.

MARINE. (Issued 337 AM CDT Tue Sep 28 2021)

Small Craft Advisory continues until 7 AM CDT this morning for lingering waves of 3 to 5 feet. Atwater Buoy and the south mid- lake buoy are still showing around 5 foot waves, as northeast winds remain gusty. These winds and waves should gradually subside below criteria by 7 AM CDT this morning.

High pressure will slowly move east of the region today into Wednesday. This will bring a period of light winds to Lake Michigan, lingering into Thursday night. May see more light ground fog overnight. South to southwest winds may increase somewhat Friday into Saturday, as weak low pressure approaches the region from the southwest.
