Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 249 PM EDT Mon Jun 16 2025
New DISCUSSION, PREV MARINE AND DISCUSSION
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 248 PM EDT Mon Jun 16 2025
Although a quickly-passing isolated shower or thunderstorm will be possible in the gentle to moderate east to southeast breezes, VFR conditions will prevail at the island terminals through the TAF period.
MARINE
Issued at 1110 AM EDT Mon Jun 16 2025
No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently in effect for the Florida Keys waters. From synopsis, Atlantic ridging will remain across the Florida Peninsula through Friday. This will support moderate to occasionally fresh east to southeast breezes.
Winds will peak in the evening and overnight, while lulling during the day.
PREV DISCUSSION
Issued at 1110 AM EDT Mon Jun 16 2025
Composite satellite analysis places an expansive high pressure system centered in the central North Atlantic, extending westward all the way to the Gulf. The axis of the associated low-level ridge is currently bisecting the Florida Peninsula. Further aloft, a mid- and upper-level ridge remains firmly planted, bridging from the central Gulf eastward to the western North Atlantic. KBYX radar continues to detect isolated, popcorn-variety showers dotting the Florida Keys marine zones, being generated from the elevated moisture fluxes in the moderate east to southeast breezes. The forecast today calls for slight rain and thunder chances, and given recent radar trends, this still seems appropriate. Highs will easily top out near 90F, with ample sunshine outside of the isolated passing showers. No changes proposed to the inherited full forecast package.
