Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Miami FL 247 AM EST Tue Nov 28 2023
SHORT TERM
(Today through Wednesday)
Issued at 147 AM EST Tue Nov 28 2023
The drier and cooler air mass has settled in over the region which will keep conditions stable and dry through Tuesday and Wednesday. Dew points will fall into the 50s for the east coast metro and 40s for the Gulf coast and Lake Okeechobee areas, leading to comfortable outdoor weather. Winds will remain steady out of the north through the period. Temperatures will peak in the upper 60s to low 70s for most areas on Tuesday with east coast metro areas and southern interior hitting the mid 70s. Wednesday will see slight warming with all areas in the 70s. Overnight lows Tuesday night will fall into the low to mid 50s for most locations, with exceptions being upper 40s near the Lake and near 60 for the east coast metro.
LONG TERM
(Wednesday night through Monday)
Issued at 147 AM EST Tue Nov 28 2023
South Florida will remain in the dry and cooler air mass through Thursday, with strong surface high pressure over the SE US resulting in northerly flow and minimized rain chances. The below normal temperatures will continue through Wednesday night with overnight lows in the 50s to low 60s. By the latter half of the week, the high pressure will start to weaken and shift north, with winds over South Florida gradually veering from northerly on Thursday morning to southeasterly by Friday afternoon. This will warm temperatures by a few degrees on Thursday, and several more on Friday, with highs reaching back into the mid 80s.
Moving into the weekend, a mid-level ridge builds over the Caribbean and South Florida Peninsula. East-southeasterly flow will continue at the surface, which will extend the above normal temperature trend, and support an uptick in moisture, with an occasional opportunity for rain. While still days out, overall long term guidance has been in supportive of spotty, light showers along the far east coast and Atlantic waters. With the SE flow, and PWATS approaching 2.0", the current NBM forecast may be on the lighter side; thus, as confidence grows, a chance for rainfall has the potential to increase with afternoon showers not out of the question. The high temperatures over the weekend will rise into the mid to upper 80s, with overnight lows in the upper 60s to mid 70s.
Heat indices have the potential to reach the low to mid 90s, especially across the SW portion of the region.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1210 AM EST Tue Nov 28 2023
VFR conditions will prevail through this TAF cycle. NNW winds are expected for all east coast sites with APF likely slightly NNE.
Wind speeds will stay around 10kts for the entire period.
MARINE
Issued at 147 AM EST Tue Nov 28 2023
Winds will remain on the breezier side through Wednesday before veering easterly and eventually southeasterly by the end of the week. Sustained winds are expected to exceed 20kts in the local Atlantic waters Tuesday evening with a Small Craft Advisory issued for that. During that time, locally elevated seas of 7ft are possible, or otherwise they will be in the 4-6ft range. These elevated winds and seas will decrease Tuesday night. Besides the winds, dry conditions are expected through the end of the week.
BEACHES
Issued at 147 AM EST Tue Nov 28 2023
A moderate risk for rip currents is in place for today with the potential for a high risk later in the week as winds shift from a northerly direction to easterly direction by Thursday.
In addition, the risk for minor coastal flooding during the high tide cycles will end after the current cycle this morning as we exit the full moon phase.
