Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Miami FL 205 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025

Summer Type Weather Pattern Will Continue Over South Florida

SHORT TERM
(Rest of today through Thursday)
Issued at 201 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025

High pressure will remain over the Western Atlantic Waters and extend westward into the Florida Peninsula, as a mid to upper level low over the Southern Bahamas moves slowly westward into Eastern Cuba. This will keep an easterly wind flow over South Florida through Thursday allowing for the east coast sea breeze to develop this afternoon and again on Thursday pushing across the region.
Therefore, the best coverage of the showers and thunderstorms will be over the interior/west coast metro areas this afternoon/evening and again Thursday afternoon/evening hours where the sea breezes collide. East coast metro areas could also see a few showers and thunderstorms late tonight into Thursday morning due to the easterly wind flow allowing any activity over the Atlantic waters to work westward into these areas.

Lows tonight will be in the 70s over most areas except around 80 over the east coast metro areas. Highs on Thursday will be in the lower to mid 90s over most areas except around 90 over the east coast metro areas. Heat indices will be around 100 over South Florida on Thursday.

LONG TERM
(Thursday night through next Tuesday)
Issued at 201 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025

High pressure will remain nearly stationary over the Western Atlantic Waters extending westward into the Florida Peninsula. The mid to upper level low over the Cuba region will also dissipate this weekend. This weather pattern will keep an easterly wind flow over South Florida through early next week allowing for the east coast sea breeze to push across the region each day. Therefore, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the interior/west coast metro areas each afternoon especially where the east and west coast sea breezes collide. The east coast metro areas will also see isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly in the late night and morning hours.

Highs will be in the lower to mid 90s over most areas each day except around 90 east coast metro areas. Heat indices will be in the 100 to 105 range over South Florida each day. Lows each night will be in the 70s except around 80 over the east coast metro areas.

AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 201 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025

The winds will remain easterly over most of the TAF sites through tonight except for KAPF TAF site where winds will be westerly through 00Z. Ceiling and Vis should remain in VFR conditions through tonight, but could fall down into MVFR or even IFR conditions with any showers or thunderstorms that do develop this afternoon into the early evening hours.

MARINE
Issued at 201 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025

Winds will be mainly east southeast over the local waters of South Florida through this weekend with speeds of 10 to 15 knots. This will keep the seas at 2 feet or less in the Atlantic and Gulf waters of South Florida. Therefore, boating conditions looks good into this weekend outside of any showers or thunderstorms.

BEACHES
Issued at 201 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025

Moderate easterly winds will remain over South Florida through early next week. This will allow for a moderate Risk of Rip Currents along the east coast beaches of South Florida.
