Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Brownsville TX 632 AM CDT Thu May 22 2025
New AVIATION
SHORT TERM
(Today through Friday)
Issued at 322 AM CDT Thu May 22 2025
Satellite imagery and the Brownsville radar show a dissipating MCS/cluster of showers and thunderstorms, well south of the Rio Grande Valley, early this morning. This area of convection will continue to move east/southeast and slowly fade over the next several hours. A few showers and thunderstorms may linger or develop over the Gulf waters through around mid-morning. Light winds across the northern ranchlands may allow some patchy fog to develop around sunrise.
Otherwise, very warm daytime temperatures and rain-free conditions are expected through the period. Highs today and Friday will be in the low to mid 90s, except for the 80s at the beaches. The combination very warm temperatures and high humidity will support heat index values between 100 to 108 degrees each afternoon. There is a Minor to Moderate Heat Risk for today and Friday. Mostly cloudy and mild tonight with lows in the mid to upper 70s. Patchy fog will be possible towards sunrise on Friday across the northern ranchlands.
There is a Low Risk of Rip Currents at the local beaches today through Friday.
LONG TERM
(Friday Night through Wednesday)
Issued at 322 AM CDT Thu May 22 2025
Dry weather will prevail through the weekend with a mid-level ridge of high pressure transitioning across the Lone Star State.
As the ridge moves farther east, a weak cold front will approach from the north. Combined with the approach and passage of 500 mb shortwaves, the result will be generally scattered showers and thunderstorms for the first half of the new work week.
Temperature-wise, the initial dry weather will support above normal daytime highs and overnight lows. As the convection and associated cloud cover kicks in, however, values will slowly be tempered to move near normal levels for this time of year.
AVIATION
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 622 AM CDT Thu May 22 2025
VFR conditions with mid to high clouds and light winds prevail across Deep South Texas early this morning. Light to occasionally moderate east to southeast winds are expected for the next 24 hours. VFR conditions will continue today into this evening with some passing mid to high level clouds. There is a medium chance (40 to 50 percent) of MVFR ceilings later tonight, mainly after 06Z Friday.
MARINE
(Today through Friday)
Issued at 322 AM CDT Thu May 22 2025
Buoy020 reported southeast winds around 10 knots with gust of 12 knots and seas near 3.3 feet early this morning. Generally favorable conditions will prevail along the lower Texas coast through the period with light to occasionally moderate east to southeast winds and low to moderate seas. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible on the Gulf waters early this morning.
(Friday Night through Wednesday)
Small Craft Should Exercise Caution to Small Craft Advisory conditions are anticipated along the Lower Texas Coast from Saturday night through Monday due to an enhanced pressure gradient. Otherwise, more favorable conditions will occur throughout the remainder of the period with lighter winds and lower seas.
