Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 710 PM EST Wed Jan 27 2021

. POOR BOATING AND BEACH CONDITIONS EXPECTED TOMORROW . . ELEVATED FIRE DANGER TOMORROW AFTERNOON .

UPDATE. Cold front continues to move through northern FL with a well developed line of strong/gusty showers out ahead of it. This line currently resides along a SW-NE oriented line from The Villages to Clearwater. Other than some gusty winds and lower visibility, no significant weather is expected out of the showers as they continue to slowly sink south and weaken. Sea fog will continue to impact coastal waters and may introduce into the bays and/or coastal areas as our winds shift out of the southwest. Once the front moves through, we will see gradual clearing of the sea fog through the night .

Most significant change this evening (in addition to the fog/sea fog adjustments) was to introduce a Fire Weather Watch along with High Rip Current risk tomorrow. The rip currents is rather self- explanatory as strong north/northwest post-frontal winds will produce hazardous longshore rips across area beaches. As for the Fire Wx Watch, breezy north winds along with low humidity will produce locally dangerous conditions along and south of I-4. There are a couple caveats that may preclude this watch from being upgraded to a Red Flag Warning. This includes well below average 30 day rainfall across the region, but still decent long-term drought/fuel conditions making overall fuel conditions rather marginal. The other condition depends on rain with the aforementioned front and whether it holds together into SWFL. Nevertheless, meteorological conditions exist tomorrow that will make burning less than ideal and any fires that break out will likely spread rapidly. Please see local products pertaining to these hazards. Otherwise, the remainder of the forecast remains on track.

AVIATION. IFR to LIFR conditions exist tonight as a line of SHRA approaches the area. Sea fog may intrude over coastal terminals this evening as winds shift out of the southwest ahead of the front. Low cigs will arrive along and just behind the front as well. These clouds will lift and exit the region around sunrise tomorrow with VFR returning. Winds will become breezy out of the north during the afternoon tomorrow with gusts around 20kt possible.

MARINE. Poor boating conditions will exist over the next day or so. A band of broken showers is moving through the waters this evening. Dense marine fog still remains over parts of the coastal waters out ahead of a cold front that will be moving through overnight. After the front moves through, strong northwest to north winds will spread over the waters with advisory conditions expected everywhere except Charlotte Harbor. High pressure then slides off to the east over the Carolinas by the weekend, resulting in lighter easterly flow and calmer seas.

FIRE WEATHER. Period of breezy/gusty north winds along with low relative humidity has the potential to create locally dangerous fire wx conditions tomorrow afternoon - especially where isolated drier fuels exist and don't experience much rainfall overnight. See RFW product for more info.
