Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 724 AM EDT Sun Jul 25 2021

AVIATION. VFR conditions continue through much of the day, then VCTS for all sites starting between 18-21Z and continuing through the rest of the evening. Threat of some shower activity remains tonight, and will keep VCSH through the end of the period for most sites. It should be noted that some drier air will likely limit overall rainfall coverage through the forecast period, with the best chances over the southwest Florida region. Winds remain fairly light out of the northeast, but will try to turn onshore with the sea breeze this afternoon.

Prev Discussion. /issued 337 AM EDT Sun Jul 25 2021/

DISCUSSION . The main focus over the next few days will be the the trough that is over south Florida this morning. Today looks very similiar to yesterday with the slightly drier air north of the trough which will keep storms isolated in north and central Florida. The main focus of showers and storms for our area will be in southwest Florida.

As we go into early next week models are showing the trough moving west and into the Gulf of Mexico. As it does it will begin to pull extra moisture from the Atlantic over the area. This is going to enhance shower and thunderstorm chances through Wednesday. As the trough breaks down in the later half of the week ridging should return giving us our more typical shower and thunderstorm activity.

AVIATION . VFR conditions expected through the period. VCTS will be possible in the late afternoon and early evening hours for most airports. Higher shower chances in southwest Florida will result in SHRA with VCTS for PGD, FMY, and RSW in the late afternoon and evening. Winds will remain light and mainly out of the northeast.

MARINE . Winds will be a littler breezier this morning in off shore waters with winds between 10 to 15 knots out of the east and northeast. These winds will calm down by the afternoon and remain out of the east and northeast. The troughing in south Florida will start to head into the Gulf at the beginning of the work week. Winds will remain light but will be shifting to the south and then southwest through Wednesday. Main marine hazards over the next few days will be the typical scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Gulf of Mexico.

FIRE WEATHER . Troughing in South Florida has resulted in slightly drier air for north and central Florida however RHs will still remain well above critical levels. Winds will remain light and there is no fire weather concerns.
