Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 142 PM EDT Fri May 15 2026

New DISCUSSION, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER

KEY MESSAGES

- Above normal temperatures are expected each day through at least the next week.

- Rain chances increase each day through the weekend, with mainly afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms possible each day into next week.

- Severe to extreme drought conditions continue for most areas.

DISCUSSION
Issued at 138 PM EDT Fri May 15 2026 Surface high pressure continues over the southeast this afternoon, with a fairly dry air mass over the region, though a few showers are expected to pop up over southeast Florida. For the weekend and into next week, high pressure will shift out into the Atlantic, with southeast to east boundary layer flow prevailing. Moisture will also be on the rise and this, coupled with the sea breeze and east flow, will allow for higher rain coverage than we have seen lately, with the highest chances closer to I-75 and the west coast each afternoon and evening.

AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 138 PM EDT Fri May 15 2026 VFR conditions are expected through the forecast period. Some showers will be around southwest Florida this afternoon, but chances are too low to include in TAFs for those sites.

MARINE
Issued at 138 PM EDT Fri May 15 2026 Northwest winds continue this afternoon with high pressure over the region. By this weekend, southeast to east flow will establish, turning onshore at the coast each afternoon with the sea breeze. Winds will generally remain below headlines, but thunderstorms could shift offshore during the late afternoon and evening hours each day, leading to locally higher winds and seas.

FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 138 PM EDT Fri May 15 2026 Moisture will increase across the region over the next several days, with scattered showers and storms expected each afternoon and evening. No Red Flag concerns and no significant fog is expected.
