Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 948 AM EDT Thu Oct 1 2020

UPDATE. Cold front is now stalled in South Florida. This is keeping some cloud cover over places south of I-4 and will bring a few showers and storm to Lee and Charlotte county this afternoon. Besides that we will have a quiet and pleasant day with low humidity and slightly warmer temperatures.

Prev Discussion. /issued 749 AM EDT Thu Oct 1 2020/

AVIATION . VFR conditions expected through the period however brief MVFR conditions can't be ruled out in our southern TAFs sites. Winds will remain out of the north and northeast through the period with VCTS possible at FMY and RSW.

Prev Discussion . /issued 444 AM EDT Thu Oct 1 2020/

DISCUSSION . The stalled frontal boundary remains across south FL this morning with high pressure centered over the northern Gulf and ridging across the area. Broken cloudiness around 3000ft is extending back to the north from the boundary to around the Tampa Bay area before clearing across the Nature Coast. Temps are in the mid 50s to mid 60s in the cleared out areas, with around 70 to the lower 70s elsewhere.

A secondary front currently draped across the TN Valley will settle south and merge with the stalled boundary Friday night, with rain chances remaining only across the southern zones where the best moisture remains. Highs today and Friday in the lower to mid 80s, with lows tonight and Friday night in the upper 50s north to around 70 south/coastal.

The boundary/moisture then lifts north over the weekend and into early next week as an upper trough remains across the eastern US and shortwave energy streams over the state. This will allow for numerous showers and storms with no great handle on timing, but the highest chances remaining across the south. Temperatures will moderate, with highs generally in the lower to mid 80s and lows in the 60s to lower 70s.

A lot of uncertainty is then in place through the end of the period dependent upon the evolution and movement of the areas that are currently being monitored in the tropics by NHC. For more information on those, see the tropical weather outlook.

MARINE . Winds and seas are expected to remain below headline criteria through the end of the week, as a boundary remains stalled across south FL with weak ridging over the waters, and a secondary boundary settling through the waters Friday night. Conditions may increase to near advisory levels for the weekend as the boundary lifts north over the waters and rain chances increase. Will be monitoring the tropics as well to see how the systems currently being monitored evolve and may have far-reaching impacts to the local waters. Mariners will want to stay informed on the latest forecasts for any weekend plans.

FIRE WEATHER . No concerns as afternoon humidities are expected to remain above critical values.
