Corrected Preliminary Point Temps/PoPs

DISCUSSION. The transistion back to our more typical summertime pattern is underway as the surface ridge axis that has been stuck south of the area will drift north into central Florida today and then north of the area Thursday through early next week. Meanwhile in the mid/upper levels a strong ridge will setup across the southern U.S. during the period and all of this will establish a deep easterly flow with a few waves/distubances moving through couple of days bringing higher rain chances.

For early this morning we still have light westerly flow across the Nature Coast and this is bringing a few showers and thunderstorms over the northeast gulf onshore afecting coastal areas north of Tampa Bay. Then for the remainder of today we'll have rather light and variable winds allowing the east coast and west coast sea breezes to develop and move well inland leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Convection will first develop along the sea breezes near the coast in the late morning and midday hours then shift inland during the afternoon. The easterly flow will begin to increase late in the day/evening so a few more showers and storms could move west toward the coast during this time before moving out into the gulf overnight.

For Thursday an east to northeast flow will be established and with plenty of moisture in place we'll see scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms develop and move west during the afternoon and evening hours. The highest rain chances are expected along and west of the Interstate 75 corridor from Tampa Bay south.

Some drier air will overspread the region Thurdsay night into early Friday, but during the day a wave will be moving west across the peninsula bringing deeper moisture back into most of the area, with the only exception being the northern Nature Coast. The easterly flow will be in place and thus keep the west coast sea breeze close to the coast which is where the highest rain chances will be during the afternoon and evening and mainly south of Tampa Bay.

Over the weekend and into the first half of next week the deep easterly flow will persist and this will keep the west coast sea breeze close to the coast each day and therefore the highest rain chances here also. The amount of moisture will vary from day to day, but in general we should see scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms develop each afternoon and evening and move out into the Gulf of Mexico each night.

Temperatures will continue to be slightly above normal today and Thursday then as the easterly flow and higher rain chances become established we'll see a return near normal readings.

AVIATION. MVFR/local IFR conditions will be possible in scattered showers and thunderstorms starting around midday and continuing into the evening. Otherwise VFR conditions should prevail with light winds this morning becoming onshore at 5 to 10 knots near the coast in the afternoon then becoming light and variable again by late evening.

MARINE. The surface ridge axis will drift north into the waters today with rather light winds becoming onshore during the afternoon and osolated to scattered convection possible at almost anytime. Then tonight through early next week the ridge axis will shift north of the area with an easterly flow setting up and scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms most likely during the late afternoon and evening hours. Showers and thunderstorms will be capable of producing frequent lightning, locally gusty winds, and rough seas.

FIRE WEATHER. Sufficient low level moisture will keep relative humidity values above critical levels through the weekend with no Red Flag conditions expected.
