New UPDATE, AVIATION
KEY MESSAGES
- Freezing temperatures in the Nature Coast and cold weather hazards areawide tonight into Tuesday morning.
- Hazardous marine conditions continue into mid week.
- Warming trend mid to late week.
UPDATE
Issued at 720 PM EST Mon Jan 19 2026
Early evening IR satellite imagery is showing clear skies across the entire forecast area as high pressure settles in north of Florida. A tight pressure gradient along the southern edge of this high pressure will keep modest northeast winds in place overnight over the southern half of the forecast area, while winds will be closer to calm over the northern half of the forecast area. This will setup an interesting hybrid of radiational cooling over the Nature Coast counties where widespread freezing temperatures are expected, and weak cold air advection over the southern half of the area. From around Interstate 4 and the Tampa Bay south, temperatures are not forecast to drop below freezing over widespread areas, but the higher winds are expected to drop wind chills into the mid 20s to low 30s, triggering a Cold Weather Advisory.
Temperatures over the northern half of the area have been bumped down a couple degrees over the next few hours to keep up with observational trends. Otherwise, no major changes are planned for the evening update.
AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
