Synopsis for the middle texas coastal waters..
light to moderate southeasterly flow will increase to more moderate and turn to the south tonight and Friday. Moderate to strong southerly flow could develop on Friday. The moderate to strong southerly flow will weaken to weak to moderate Saturday just ahead of an approaching cold front. The strong cold front will push through the waters Saturday evening into Saturday night. Very strong northerly flow of 30-35 knots will follow in the wake of the front causing gale conditions through at least early Sunday morning, then decrease to 20-25 knots Sunday afternoon. Isolated to scattered showers and Thunderstorms will be possible Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. Winds then quickly diminish, become weak and shifting southeasterly late Sunday night into Monday morning. Southeasterly flow slightly strengthens to weak to moderate Monday night through Tuesday then generally moderate Tuesday night into Wednesday.

SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Friday night)
Issued at 337 PM CST Thu Dec 7 2023
Key Messages:
- Above-normal temperatures through the end of the workweek
- Patchy to areas of fog tonight and tomorrow night
As the mid to upper-level shortwave continues to move across the area, cloudy conditions are expected to continue across the region.
Clouds should begin to dissipate and move out of the area late tomorrow morning resulting in partly cloudy skies tomorrow afternoon. With less cloud cover tomorrow and onshore flow strengthening ahead of our next cold front, above-normal temperatures are expected with most of South Texas reaching the lower to mid 80s.
There is a low to medium chance of patchy to areas of fog late tonight across the western Brush Country and tomorrow night across most of South Texas due to sufficient low-level moisture and light winds.
LONG TERM
(Saturday through next Wednesday)
Issued at 337 PM CST Thu Dec 7 2023
Key Messages:
- Strong cold front Saturday evening brings a medium chance for sustained winds around 30 mph over the Coastal Bend overnight
- Low chance (20-30$) of showers and thunderstorms Saturday evening along the front, then again the middle of next week
- Medium chance (30-60%) for freezing temperatures early Monday morning for low-lying drainage areas from McMullen to Refugio County
Saturday's highs will be about 10 degrees above normal, ranging from the upper 70s to mid 80s. These temperatures will get absolutely obliterated as a strong cold front pushes through Saturday evening (trended later), bringing colder and much drier air in its wake.
Northerly winds will be strong in wake with gale force conditions over the waters and near Wind Advisory criteria (sustained 30 mph)
over the Coastal Bend overnight into early Sunday morning. Included a low 20-30% chance of showers and even lower chances of thunderstorms during a 6-hr window with FROPA from 6PM Saturday to midnight. It'll be very quick with greatest chances and coverage over the waters. Highs on Sunday drop to the low to mid 60s on Sunday.
Although weak onshore flow returns Sunday night, there's going to be a delay in dewpoints and moisture recovering. Sunday night will be the coldest night across South Texas with clear skies, light winds, and dewpoints in the 20s inland causing efficient radiational cooling. Currently have mid 30s over the inland Coastal Plains and Brush Country, to the mid 40s along the coast. However, low-lying drainage areas could see freezing temperatures. In fact, NBM shows a medium chance (30-60%) of freezing minimum temperatures from McMullen to Refugio County.
Rain-free conditions continue through Tuesday with PWAT values below normal and temperatures warmer with highs on Tuesday in the low 70s and lows Tuesday night generally in the 50s. Low to medium (20-40%)
rain chances return at the end of the long term, during the middle of next week as PWAT values climb to near 1.50" in association with Pacific moisture of a mid-level low or trough traversing from the Pacific across Mexico into South Texas.
