Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 1235 AM EST Tue Jan 20 2026
New DISCUSSION, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER
KEY MESSAGES
- Freezing temperatures in the Nature Coast and cold weather hazards areawide through early this morning.
- Hazardous marine conditions continue into mid week.
- Warming trend next several days.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 1201 AM EST Tue Jan 20 2026 High pressure over the southeast U.S. will move to the mid Atlantic coast today. This will cause boundary layer winds across the Florida peninsula to veer to the northeast off the Atlantic which will allow the cold airmass currently over the forecast area to moderate significantly over the next couple of days...with temperatures climbing to around climatic normals on Wednesday, and above climatic normals Thursday through Saturday.
A cold front is expected to push across west central and southwest Florida Sunday and Sunday night with a chance of showers, mainly north and central. Canadian high pressure will build over the forecast area in the wake of the front early next week with drier cooler air advecting across the region.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1201 AM EST Tue Jan 20 2026 VFR conditions will continue for the next 24 hours at all terminals with clear skies and breezy northeast winds developing around mid morning.
MARINE
Issued at 1201 AM EST Tue Jan 20 2026 Hazardous marine conditions will persist today and tonight as cautionary level winds continue. Winds and seas will gradually subside Wednesday and Wednesday night. High pressure will hold over the waters Thursday through Saturday with relatively benign conditions each day. A cold front will push across the waters Sunday and Sunday night with winds likely increasing to cautionary or advisory levels.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 1201 AM EST Tue Jan 20 2026 Minimum afternoon relative humidity values will drop below critical levels across the nature coast and portions of west central Florida today. Sustained winds will be near 15 MPH.
However, the significant fire potential remains low. Although there will be enhanced fire weather conditions today, they are not expected to meet criteria for a RFW.
Low level moisture will recover on Wednesday with minimum afternoon relative humidity values remaining above critical levels.
