Synopsis..We are currently seeing a moist south to southwest flow over the gulf. This flow during the summer typically gives us scattered to widespread showers over the gulf which we have already seen today. Expect showers to form in the gulf overnight and the early morning hours through the weekend which will start to push towards the coast and inland in the afternoon hours. Winds will shift to a more easterly direction during early next week as the ridge builds back north lower showers chances in the gulf but increasing them inland. Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 243 PM EDT Thu Sep 16 2021

DISCUSSION. Currently the Remnants of Nicholas is still sitting in Louisiana with the Invest area in the Atlantic off the Carolina coast. This has resulted in the ridge breaking down and a south to southwest flow over Florida. This has helped to bring an increase in moisture over the area with this morning skew-t shows a PW of 2.1. The extra moisture plus the south to southwest flow has caused morning showers in the Gulf to move in along the coast and are now working their way inland. Just like yesterday we will see showers wind down in the late evening overnight hours however showers will once again start to develop over the Gulf.

For the weekend the ridge will start to return in south Florida. However, this will keep us in a southwest to westerly flow regime which means morning showers in the Gulf moving inland in teh afternoon and evening.

The ridge will move its way north early next week which will shift our winds to a more easterly direction which will favor thunderstorm development inland in the early afternoon before pushing towards the west coast in the evening hours.

AVIATION. We will be in a wet pattern over the next 24 hours which will result in either VCSH, VCTS, or SHRA at all terminals for most of period. We could see brief MVFR and IFR conditions when the showers and storms are over station. Besides that expect VFR conditions. Winds will be light and generally out of the southwest and west through the period.

MARINE. We are currently seeing a moist south to southwest flow over the Gulf. Besides showers and thunderstorm no other marine hazards are expected through the period.

FIRE WEATHER. No fire weather concerns.
