Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 719 PM EST Fri Feb 28 2020

UPDATE.

Onshore flow is keeping temperatures a few degrees higher this evening than this time yesterday. This is especially true inland where the flow was not onshore last night due to the degree of northerly component. The wind does not veer around again till sometime around sunrise. The current forecast is on track, I plan no changes.

AVIATION.

I stripped all clouds from the TAFs. It is possible that SRQ may see a few clouds due to speed convergence along the coast, but I am expecting VFR conditions at all airports.

MARINE.

Winds have come down for the evening, rip current conditions are marginal however coastal waves will pick up again early in the morning. I will extend the rip current advisory so as to expire around the same time as the SCA. The midnight shift may need to extend it through the rest of Saturday but they will have fresh data to look at.

Prev Discussion. /issued 144 PM EST Fri Feb 28 2020/

DISCUSSION . An amplified pattern remains in place aloft with ridging out west and a closed low over eastern Canada, with troughing extending across much of the eastern half of the U.S. At the surface, high pressure over Texas extends eastward across the Gulf and over Florida. After a cool start this morning, temperatures have warmed up nicely into the 60s area-wide. We won't be quite as cool tomorrow morning as the surface high starts to shifts eastward. A reinforcing cold front will move through the region during the day with little fanfare. Temperatures will warm a bit more Saturday afternoon, but the cold front will give us another cool morning on Sunday, with lows expected to be similar to this morning.

For early next week, surface high pressure shifts eastward as ridging builds aloft. Generally speaking, expect rain-free conditions through the first half of Wednesday with warming temperatures each day. Highs for the week peak on Wednesday afternoon, with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 80s except a bit lower near the coast. Another front Wednesday night into Thursday will bring a chance for showers and temperatures back near normal.

AVIATION . VFR conditions are expected through the forecast period.

MARINE . Northwest winds will increase to advisory levels tonight into the first part of Saturday, with speeds subsiding through the rest of Saturday afternoon. No other headlines expected into early next week.

FIRE WEATHER . Relative humidity values are expected to drop below critical levels for a few hours both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, but no red flag conditions are anticipated. No significant fog is expected.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerous of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
