KEY MESSAGES
Updated at 614 PM CDT Sat Mar 14 2026
- Fire Weather Watch, Gale Watch and Wind Advisory have been issued
- Cold front late Sunday will bring critical fire conditions Monday and gale conditions across marine sites
- Below-normal temps Monday/Tuesday followed by a warming trend
DISCUSSION
Issued at 150 PM CDT Sat Mar 14 2026
Well above normal temperatures (15-20 degrees above normal) will continue Sunday with many locations flirting with the century mark.
All three climate sites will have the potential to set new maximum temperature records (CRP and VCT forecast 1 degree below and LRD forecast 3 degrees below) on Sunday. The script will flip Sunday night as another strong cold front will swing across the region.
Strong winds in the wake of the front will lead to various weather hazards (Wind Advisory, Gale Watch and Fire Weather Watch) Sunday night into Monday. After a couple of cool days Monday and Tuesday, a warming trend is expected to begin Wednesday with above normal temperatures back in place by late next week. The only chances for rain this week will come with the frontal passage with low chances (10-15%) Sunday night into Monday morning.
AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 614 PM CDT Sat Mar 14 2026
Tonight, winds will return to be more southerly. Overnight winds will hover between 10-15 kts, minimizing dense fog opportunities, but MVFR conditions brought by reduced VIS/CIG will be at play between 10-14Z. W'ly winds return with a dry line passage Sunday afternoon. Beyond the TAF cycle, a strong cold front will move in increasing N'ly winds and a brief period of LLWS concerns closer to 06Z. We will keep monitoring this to see if LLWS lines need to be added in the next set of TAFs.
MARINE
Issued at 150 PM CDT Sat Mar 14 2026
A fresh breeze (BF 5) is expected to continue tonight through Sunday night before the arrival of our next front. Strong winds are expected in the wake of the front with gusts up to 45-50 mph possible and seas up to 16 feet. Therefore, a Small Craft Advisory has been issued from Sunday morning through Sunday evening with a Gale Watch from Sunday night through Monday morning. You can expect for another Small Craft Advisory to be issued Monday afternoon once winds decrease below gale speeds. Except for a low to medium chance (20-55%) for showers across the Gulf Waters with the frontal passage, rain is not expected next week.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 150 PM CDT Sat Mar 14 2026
A cold front will swing through Sunday night into Monday morning ushering cooler and drier air. Minimum humidity values are expected to drop into the 10-30% range Sunday before dropping further to the 10-20% range Monday. The strongest winds in the wake of the front are expected to be from Sunday night to Monday afternoon, which is when the relative humidity values are expected to transition from the 20% range to the teens. Therefore, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued has critical fire weather conditions are not expected Monday.
