KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 142 AM EDT Sat Oct 10 2026
- Scattered to numerous showers and storms (50-70%) in the afternoon and evening this weekend. The strongest storms will be capable of producing occasional lightning, wind gusts up to 50 mph, and brief torrential rainfall. Locations that receive multiple storms will have a Marginal Risk of minor flooding.
- Warm and humid this weekend, with peak heat indices up to around 105 today and in the mid 90s to low 100s on Sunday. Those spending time outdoors should stay hydrated and take breaks in the A/C if feeling unwell. Less humid and drier conditions arrive on Monday through at least the middle of next week.
- The High Risk of life-threatening rip currents persists at all Central Florida Atlantic beaches today. Please stay out of the surf.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 142 AM EDT Sat Oct 10 2026
-----------Synoptic Overview-----------
Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, FL earlier this evening. It is moving northward and away from Central Florida. An unseasonably strong ridge of mid-level high pressure, with H5 heights approaching 597 dam, resides east of the Bahamas this morning. This ridge is expected to expand westward over Florida and the Gulf this weekend, with its axis passing west of the state on Sunday night. Deep, tropical moisture continues to be funneled northward from the Caribbean and over Florida in broad southerly flow. No appreciable change to this setup is expected through Sunday morning. By late Sunday afternoon, the fetch of tropical moisture will begin to narrow, likely focusing somewhere over Central or South Florida.
By Monday, the remnant energy associated with Isaias is expected to turn east and reach the Mid-Atlantic states. Weak northwesterly flow aloft forces a cold front through Central Florida. This is expected to deliver much drier air through the troposphere beginning late Sunday into Monday. By Tuesday, total moisture values over the state should range from 50 to 75% of normal.
Cluster analysis of the 09/12Z ensemble suite reveals generally strong agreement in the upper-air pattern over the U.S. through late next week. A ridge axis is forecast to be situated near or west of the state through the period. By next Thursday, an inverted trough may pass through the NW Caribbean Sea, with its moisture likely to remain just south of the area.
By next weekend, we will watch the polar jet as a shortwave ejects from the Plains and Rockies. Physics-based members are nearly evenly split on whether this energy moves into the Northeast U.S. as a consolidated longwave trough or a weaker, less amplified feature. A stronger trough would give the best chance for another cold front to reach Central Florida around next Sunday or Monday.
-------Sensible Weather & Impacts-------
This Weekend...
Just a couple more days of this humid, unsettled pattern for us. Breezy southerly flow today and ample destabilization should prompt scattered showers and storms (60-70%) to develop, especially in the afternoon and early evening. These will have a low chance of producing wind gusts of 40-50 mph, occasional lightning, and brief heavy rainfall. Highs today will top out in the upper 80s to low 90s. Combined with the high humidity, heat indices peak between 100 and 105 degrees. Residents and visitors will need to stay hydrated and take breaks due to this late-season heat. Expect south breezes of 10-20 mph.
A few showers may linger into tonight as the ribbon of deep moisture becomes concentrated over the area. This should lead to somewhat more cloud cover on Sunday. Still, scattered to numerous showers and storms (50-70%) are expected on Sunday. This activity may be aided by the approaching front, which is likely to be encroaching on the I-4 corridor by afternoon. Shear profiles look rather weak, but moderate mid-level flow should once again support a few gusty storms. Highs on Sunday will generally range from 85 to 90 degrees, warmest south. Behind the front, somewhat less humid air should reach locations northwest of I-4 by late Sunday afternoon.
Excessive rainfall concerns look to remain mitigated by generally faster shower/storm motion this weekend. Still, those spots that are saturated and happen to receive multiple storms in a short period may experience brief flooding.
Next Week...
The weak cold front settling into the area on Sunday will very slowly drift into South Florida by Monday afternoon. While we can't rule out a shower or two Sunday night into Monday along the Treasure Coast, most spots will be dry. The afternoon looks mostly sunny and warm with highs in the upper 80s. The big change is that it will begin to feel much more comfortable, as very dry continental air aloft mixes to the surface; dew points should dip into the 60s.
Drier air remains parked over the state through much of the work week, leaving us with mostly rain-free weather for several days. Lows should drop into the mid 60s to low 70s, with highs staying warm in the mid to upper 80s. By Friday and next Saturday, some deeper moisture may approach from the south as a trough passes through the northwest Caribbean. Statistical guidance introduces low (30-40%) chances for a few showers by that time. As mentioned in the overview, a cold front may be dipping toward the state late next weekend, but this depends on the strength of a trough over the Northeast U.S.

Mainly VFR conditions outside of convection through the TAF period. Light S/SE wind early this morning will increase 10-14 knots with gusts around 20 knots aft 14Z. A higher coverage of SHRA/TSRA forecast to develop and lift N/NE, mainly in the afternoon into early evening so TEMPOs for MVFR TS are in place for all terminals in the afternoon with some lingering SHRA past 00Z. A few terminals should see more than one round of SHRA/TSRA.
Will start LEE off first with VCSH for convection edging eastward from the Gulf coast.
