PREVIOUS DISCUSSION
Issued at 355 PM EDT Sat May 17 2025

Currently-Sunday... Local radar imagery shows dry weather and GOES-16 satellite imagery shows mostly sunny skies over east central Florida. High pressure (~1016mb) is situated over the eastern Gulf of America and the state of Florida. Temperatures are currently in the upper 80s to mid 90s with dew points in the upper 60s to mid 70s. Heat index values are between 95 to 104F degrees. Winds are from the east-southeast at 6-12mph with gusts to 20mph near the coast mainly south of Volusia county and from the west-southwest at 5-10mph to the west of I-95, as well as over Volusia county. Dry and hot conditions are expected this afternoon and early evening with late afternoon/early evening temperatures in the upper 80s to mid 90s.

Dry and hot weather will continue Sunday afternoon and early evening. High pressure (~1018mb) is expected over Florida on Sunday with anomalous 500mb heights between 588-591dm over east central Florida into Sunday afternoon. Above normal (~5-10F+) to record temperatures are forecast with highs in the low to upper 90s and heat index values between 98-106F degrees. Lows in the mid 60s to mid 70s are forecast. There is a Moderate HeatRisk for most of east central Florida today and Sunday. This level of heat affects most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without adequate hydration or effective cooling. It is recommended that those who spend extended periods of time outside during the afternoon and early evening hours to drink plenty of water, wear light- colored clothing, reduce time spent outdoors or stay in the shade, and take breaks in an air conditioned facility. West-southwest winds are expected to become onshore and increase into the afternoon at 10-15mph with gusts to 20mph with the east coast sea breeze mainly to the east of the Orlando metro.

Monday-Wednesday... High pressure is expected to gradually shift southeast over the southwest Atlantic Monday and into midweek with 500mb heights between 588-591dm forecast over east central Florida. NAEFS and ECMWF ensembles indicate temperatures in the 90th to 99.5th percentile over east central Florida each afternoon through Wednesday. Dry and above normal (~5-10F) to record temperatures are forecast with highs generally in the low to upper 90s and heat index values between 98-106F degrees under mostly to partly sunny skies. Lows in the upper 60s to mid 70s are forecast. There is a Moderate to Major HeatRisk each day. A Major to Extreme HeatRisk affects anyone without effective cooling and/or hydration. More information on HeatRisk and other heat related information can be found at weather.gov/mlb.heatsupport.
West-southwest winds are expected to become onshore and increase into the afternoon with the east coast sea breeze mainly to the east of the Orlando metro on Monday and Tuesday. Offshore flow is expected to increase on Wednesday with west-southwest winds at 10-15mph and gusts to 25mph forecast.

Thursday-Friday... Global models shows a major shortwave trough deepening over the southeastern US Thursday and Friday. Low pressure (~1000mb) is expected to move east-northeast over the northeastern CONUS which is forecast to bring a "cool" front over east central Florida on Thursday. Global models show the front weakening as it moves east-southeast over east central Florida.
However, guidance shows MUCAPE up to 2,000 J/kg, 0-6km bulk shear between 20-30kts, and PWATs between 1.40-1.70" as the "cool" front moves over east central Florida. Isolated to widely scattered (PoPs ~20-30%) showers and lightning storms are forecast to develop from the northwest to southeast (Lake County to the Treasure Coast) and move east-northeast over east central Florida before moving offshore over the east central Florida Atlantic waters. The main hazards with lightning storms are forecast to be occasional lightning strikes and gusty winds. West-southwest winds at 10-15mph Thursday afternoon are forecast to veer north- northeast Friday afternoon. Afternoon highs in the low to mid 90s are forecast Thursday with the mid 80s to low 90s forecast on Friday behind the aforementioned front. Heat index values between 90-102F degrees are forecast on Thursday with a Moderate HeatRisk.
Lows in the low to mid 70s are forecast on Thursday with the low 60s to low 70s forecast Friday morning.

VFR through the period. Light and variable winds are forecast overnight. Southwest winds develop tomorrow, generally remaining 10 kts or less. The east coast sea breeze will develop in the afternoon, shifting winds east around 10-12 kts at coastal terminals. Dry conditions persist.

FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 355 PM EDT Sat May 17 2025

Sensitive fire weather conditions are expected through mid week next week with soils expected to continue to dry out with no mentionable rain chances in the forecast through Wednesday.

Minimum RH values as low as 35-40% are forecast generally over the interior Monday and into midweek next week. Winds will turn onshore each afternoon (mainly east of the Orlando metro) through Tuesday at 10-15mph with gusts to 20mph behind the sea breeze. West-southwest winds at 10-15mph with gusts to 25mph are forecast on Wednesday. Above normal (~5-10F+) to near record high temperatures are expected each day.
