KEY MESSAGES
Updated at 530 AM CDT Sun Oct 11 2026
- Much above normal temperatures will return with high temperatures approaching 90 degrees on Sunday, and continuing through much of next week with little or no precipitation.
SHORT TERM
(Now through Wednesday)
Issued at 105 AM CDT Sun Oct 11 2026
Going into the 2nd half of the weekend and into the start of next week, overall conditions are going to be very benign. Surface high pressure builds into the region. Aloft, a rather robust H5 ridge builds over the region, which will allow for well above average temperatures to take shape. Sadly, it doesn't appear we are done with 90F temps quite yet. Otherwise, mostly clear skies with the main storm track remaining well to our north and west. Surface moisture will be on the low side, which means overnight will be comfortable. (Frye)
LONG TERM
(Wednesday night through Saturday)
Issued at 105 AM CDT Sun Oct 11 2026
High pressure at the surface and aloft will control the weather for the middle of the week. A strong trough digging through the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley will push a strong cold front toward the area on Friday, with the front expected to be south and east of the area by Saturday morning. The front won't have much moisture available with it, so the rain threat is very low. And if it does rain, it might not be much more than a sprinkle or two.
Through Friday, temperature guidance is pretty consistent with readings running about 10 degrees F above normal, with some spots hitting 90 on one or more days. Overnight lows mainly in the 60s.
Behind the cold frontal passage Friday night, Saturday will be cooler, but the question is how much cooler. The operational GFs and ECMWF show about a 10-15 degree range on high temperatures Saturday, and an even larger range on Saturday night lows. Latest NBM numbers show about a 10 degree cool off for Saturday, and maybe a couple more degrees next Sunday, when most highs might not get out of the 70s. (RW)
