New AVIATION

SHORT TERM
(This evening through Tuesday Night)
Issued at 349 PM CDT Mon May 12 2025

A moderating/warming trend begins tonight as southerly winds resume and mid-upper ridging builds into the area. Wouldn't be surprised to see some patchy fog develop during the late night hours...burning off fairly quickly after sunrise Tuesday. With a warmer start to the day and plenty of sunshine, we'll begin seeing daytime highs top out in the beloved 90s. Despite conditions not approaching Heat Advisory criteria, those working outside, or have outdoor plans, take it easy! Heat illnesses/exhaustion are more common in the first few heat events of the season before your body becomes better acclimated. 47

LONG TERM
(Wednesday through next Sunday)
Issued at 349 PM CDT Mon May 12 2025

Ridging, heat and dry conditions will be the prevailing storyline for the remainder of the week. H85 temps continue to climb into midweek and peak in the 26-28C range Wed-Thur which should be the hottest days of the week (94-100F inland, 84-88 coast with heat index values peaking 100-105F). They'll lower a touch late in the work week - but still plenty uncomfortable for this time of year...and anytime of year for that matter. Rain chances will be close to zero, with the exception of maybe extreme northern parts of the area this weekend who may be able to see an isolated shra or two skirting across the northern periphery of the ridge. Even then, best I can do at this time is advertise some 10-20% POPs. 47

AVIATION
(00Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 639 PM CDT Mon May 12 2025

VFR conditions are expected through the period with light south to southwest winds. Winds will strengthen on Tuesday with the higher gusts in the afternoon and evening. A LLWS will be possible around 2K ft late Tuesday night into early Wednesday, impacting mainly terminals north of IAH. At the moment, did not mention LLWS in TAFs due to low to medium confidence in timing/occurrence.

MARINE
Issued at 349 PM CDT Mon May 12 2025

Onshore flow resumes tonight and increases tomorrow into Wednesday. With rising winds and seas, Small Craft Advisories will likely be warranted at times Tuesday through Thursday. Tides will begin running 1.0-1.5ft above normal, but are not currently expected to pose a coastal flood risk. There will high risks of rip currents along area beaches. Winds and seas slightly decrease near the end of the work week into the upcoming weekend, but would still not anticipate great boating conditions with 15kt winds and 4-5ft seas. 47
