NEAR TERM
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 225 AM EST Fri Jan 24 2025
A shortwave will push a dry cold front through the area later today, with a reinforcing shot of cold, dry air moving overhead in its wake. Further melting of any remaining snow and ice is expected today with mostly sunny skies and highs climbing into the mid 40s to low 50s this afternoon. However, temperatures will fall quickly again overnight with lows in the low to mid 20s. Any partially melted snow, ice, or wet surfaces will refreeze again overnight. A Cold Weather Advisory and a Freeze Warning are in effect for tonight for wind chills in the upper teens to mid 20s and hard freeze conditions respectively. Please continue to protect your pets, people, pipes, plants through the duration of this cold snap.
SHORT TERM
(Saturday through Sunday night)
Issued at 225 AM EST Fri Jan 24 2025
A wide swath of west-southwesterly flow aloft will be in place across the deep south through the upcoming weekend with no upper level features of note expected to pass overhead in this pattern.
The only meteorological features of note will be surface high pressure moving over and then east of the region by the end of the weekend. The short term will see the beginning of a warm up that last into the upcoming week. High temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s on Saturday will climb into the upper 50s and low 60s on Sunday.
Despite the warm up, chilly conditions are still anticipated Saturday night into Sunday morning thanks to surface high pressure overhead and relatively clear skies and light winds. This should lead to a good radiational cooling night with low temperatures in the mid to upper 20s expected again, with the low 30s forecast along the coastline Sunday morning.
LONG TERM
(Monday through Thursday)
Issued at 225 AM EST Fri Jan 24 2025
The west-southwesterly upper level flow will generally continue through the upcoming week with only a few perturbations expected to pass nearby in the upper level flow. That will keep conditions mostly quiet through the upcoming week as conditions slowly warm back into the upper 60s and low 70s by Wednesday and Thursday. The only significant chance at precipitation in the upcoming week will likely be Monday as a broad trough associated with the northern stream interacts with a weak frontal zone across the northern Gulf.
While weak isentropic ascent along the Gulf coast frontal zone should be enough to generate a 30 to 50% chance of rain across inland portions of Alabama and Georgia, a few isolated showers can't be ruled out across the Panhandle and extreme southwest Georgia.

FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 225 AM EST Fri Jan 24 2025
A dry cold front will make its way through the area today. High dispersions are expected behind the front, relegated mainly to the northwest half of the area. High pressure builds overhead Saturday with light winds and low mixing heights leading to low dispersions Saturday afternoon. The next chance of rain appears to be early next week as high temperatures gradually warm into the 60s by Monday and
HYDROLOGY

Rainfall amounts will generally be around a half inch or less through the next week. There are currently no flooding concerns.
