New AVIATION
SHORT TERM
(This evening through Monday Night)
Issued at 203 PM CDT Sun May 11 2025
Considerable wrap around cloudiness is occurring across the eastern 2/3 of the region in association with the upper low situated just to our east. Cannot rule out an isolated shower between now and early evening, but that should be the exception versus the rule especially the further west of the I-45 corridor. We could very well see our last night of 55-62F readings of the spring tonight so get out and enjoy.
Ridge will begin building back into the area Monday and nudge the upper low further northeast. Clouds should thin out, winds gradually swing around to the wsw-sw and temperatures climb back a bit closer to seasonable norms in the 80s. We should see 5-10F higher lows Monday night than what we observe tonight.

LONG TERM
(Tuesday through next Saturday)
Issued at 203 PM CDT Sun May 11 2025
Mid-upper ridging will dominate area weather this week. H85 temperatures 8-10C at the current time will increase to 24-28C by midweek with a westerly flow prevailing just above the surface. This will translate to surface temps peaking well into the mid and even upper 90s Tue-Fri. Overnight lows will eventually climb into the 70s with the return of a southerly flow off the Gulf. We should see some 10-20mph southerly winds Tue-Thur which should "help" a bit. Rain chances will be slim-none.
As previously pointed out, even though the upcoming days will feel like typical Houston mid-summer days and Heat Advisory criteria won't be reached, it's important to note that a good number of our heat related illnesses/exhaustion occur during these first few early season heat waves when folks aren't yet quite acclimated...so take the necessary precautions if outside.

AVIATION
(00Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 638 PM CDT Sun May 11 2025
VFR. SE TX will remain tonight under the western edge of a low pressure system meandering over the LA region. This will continue to bring in BKN/OVC 070-120 decks through late tonight as well as winds shifting between 310 and 030. Radar is depicting some light rain activity, however, we are not seeing much of it being observed on the ground and may likely be virga. Expect light VRB winds overnight. UTS/CXO could have some lower decks early Mon morning and may lower to MVFR. By Mon mid morning, winds will be NW at 5-10 KTS.
Cotto - 24
MARINE
Issued at 203 PM CDT Sun May 11 2025
As low pressure to our east moves further away from the region, northwest winds will swing around to an onshore direction late Monday. Winds and seas will then increase going into midweek as the pressure gradient tightens. Small Craft Advisories will probably be needed at some point Tue afternoon-Thurs morning and expect an increasing rip current risk along area beaches.
