UPDATE
Issued at 841 AM EDT Wed May 14 2025
For the latest NE FL and SE GA Daily Key Messages please visit: https:// www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf
No major updates needed on the forecast today. Some isolated light showers are possible this afternoon over southeast Georgia, but rain chances are only at about 10-15%. Today will be the first day of above normal temperatures and dry weather through early next week, with highs reaching the upper 80s to lower 90s.
Tonight, patchy fog is likely along the I-75 corridor and north central Florida, clearing up after sunrise.
NEAR TERM
(Today through Tonight)
Issued at 220 AM EDT Wed May 14 2025
For the latest NE FL and SE GA Daily Key Messages please visit: https:// www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf
Drier high pressure has settled in over the area, dropping chances for precip below 10% for most of the forecast area. An upper level trough over the southeast will send a few short wave pulses over southeast Georgia, increasing the chance for rain along and north of HWY 341 to around 10-15% in the afternoon/evening hours. Light winds and mostly sunny skies will allow daytime highs to get into the upper 80s to low 90s. Overnight, low temperatures will dip into the mid to upper 60s with chances for fog formation possible over inland areas.
SHORT TERM
(Thursday through Friday night)
Issued at 220 AM EDT Wed May 14 2025
Quiet, dry and warm conditions will dominate this period with mid/upper level ridge building in from the west resulting in large scale subsidence.
The 500 mb heights increase to around 5890 meters Friday, which is near the 90th percentile. Sfc ridge will stay across central to south FL keeping mean low level winds from the southwest most of the time, with an east coast sea breeze pinned near the coast.
PWATs will stay near or below normal at about 0.90 to 1.2 inches.
Above average max temps expected around 90-95. Daytime mixing will help lower dewpoints sufficiently to keep most of the heat indices just below 100 both days. Lows around 65-70 expected.
Anticipate some patchy fog will be possible inland areas early in the morning.
LONG TERM
(Saturday through Tuesday)
Issued at 220 AM EDT Wed May 14 2025
Low level ridge will continue across FL with southwest to west flow over the local area and a dry and subsidence airmass. On Sunday into early Monday, a weak shortwave will rotate around the ridge across the Carolinas with an associated cold front moving into parts of GA. This may help support a low chance of a shower or storm across southeast GA but at this time confidence is low given model discrepancies. Late Monday into Tuesday, the front looks like it may work back northward and the airmass and ridge aloft remains over the region. This should continue the warm temps and lack of precip, though can't rule out a low chance of an afternoon shower or storm along the east coast in association with the Atlantic sea breeze.
Hot temps expected still with highs in the lower to mid 90s. Records could be tied or broken based on current forecasts. Lows look to be normal but potentially could be close to record high minimum.
Heat indices look to be peak to near 100.
AVIATION
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 639 AM EDT Wed May 14 2025
VFR conditions prevail at all TAF sites for the forecast period.
Winds will shift from out of the west to southeasterly beginning at the coastal sites in the early afternoon, moving inland to JAX around 21Z and VQQ around 00Z. Winds will shift back to southwesterly in the late evening.
MARINE
Issued at 220 AM EDT Wed May 14 2025
Southwest winds continue out over the local waters with small craft exercise caution conditions dropping off from the southeast Georgia waters by 7 AM. Winds will shift to southerly in the afternoon with wind speeds reaching near small craft exercise caution levels after sunset for the southeast Georgia and northeast Florida waters for the next couple nights. High pressure will begin to shift south over the weekend as a cold front moves in from the northwest.
Rip Currents: Moderate risk for rip current at all area beaches for the next couple of days.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 220 AM EDT Wed May 14 2025
Main headline is the occasionally high daytime dispersion as low level winds and mixing heights continue to trend up during the daytime. Min RH over the next few days will drop to the upper 30s to lower 40s during the afternoon hours. Wind gusts during the afternoon hours may reach 15-20 mph during the aftn hours through the end of the workweek.
