Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 642 AM CDT Fri May 23 2025
New AVIATION
KEY MESSAGES
- Mostly dry and warm days anticipated through Saturday, although isolated showers and storms will be possible.
- Rain chances increase Sunday with unsettled weather persisting going into the next work week.
- There is a Marginal Risk for Excessive rainfall across parts of SETX and CenLA on Monday & Tuesday.
SHORT TERM
(Today through Sunday night)
Issued at 345 AM CDT Fri May 23 2025
Pretty quiet weather at the moment with a few areas of patchy to dense fog. Temperatures are warm in the upper 60s to mid 70s with near matching dewpoints. While fog is not anticipated to reach or stay in DF.Y criteria, there will be some areas of dense fog, so it's advised to commute with caution.
Over the short term, temperatures will be above climatological normals, with elevated dewpoints as a result of southerly flow ushering in ample gulf moisture. Heat indices will be in the 90s to lower 100s. While this is below HI.Y criteria, the hear risk will be minor to moderate today and tomorrow; major in some areas on Sunday. PoPs will be isolated at best as a result of an upper ridge building in over TX / MX, however that ridge will be squashed south over the gulf in the latter part of the weekend.
LONG TERM
(Monday through Friday)
Issued at 345 AM CDT Fri May 23 2025
The long term will be a stretch of unsettled weather as an upper trough takes shape over the western CONUS and a series of shortwaves moves into our region. Established southerly flow and deep moisture will prevail for the duration of the long term. As a result, daily scattered showers and storms will be on tap. The showers and cloud cover will help in keeping temperatures only a few degrees above normal.
While severe weather is not expected at this time, there is a Marginal Risk for Excessive rainfall across parts of SETX and CenLA on Monday & Tuesday. Tuesday into Wednesday, a frontal boundary is expected to sink south into the area. This will provide a focus for heavier showers and storms.
AVIATION
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 639 AM CDT Fri May 23 2025
A variety of TAF categories this morning thanks to low CIGs and VIS, with areas of patchy light to dense fog. These conditions will begin to burn off shortly as the sun rises and wind speeds pick up. Similar conditions will be likely tomorrow morning.
MARINE
Issued at 345 AM CDT Fri May 23 2025
Onshore winds and seas will begin a modest increase late in the weekend. Widely isolated showers and storms to be expected over the Memorial Day Weekend with unsettled weather to follow from Tuesday on.
