Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tallahassee FL 1229 AM EST Thu Dec 2 2021

AVIATION. [Through 06Z Friday]

Fog is expected to develop in the predawn hours from TLH westward to include DHN and ECP. IFR flight restrictions will be likely between 08-14Z in any fog that develops, some locally dense. North and east of this area, from ABY to VLD, VFR conds will prevail. After 14Z, VFR will prevail at all TAF sites.

PREV DISCUSSION [903 PM EST].

NEAR TERM [Through Thursday].

Sunny and dry conditions will continue through the near term on Thursday as another surface high pressure system builds into the southeast and along the Gulf coast states starting overnight tonight and on Thursday. As surface dewpoints increase through the remainder of today, and the overnight hours, low temperatures are forecast to be 10 degrees higher than they have been across the region, with widespread low to mid 40s. High temperatures will also be warm on Thursday, with highs climbing into the mid 70s for many across the area. Overall the biggest impact to the region will be the potential for patchy fog late tonight and through the early morning hours across the Florida Panhandle and portions of SE Alabama and SW Georgia.

SHORT TERM [Thursday Night Through Friday Night].

The large scale flow will be of continental origins through the period with a high pressure ridge in the vicinity. The absence of fronts and dry air mass lends to high confidence in no precipitation for the remainder of the work week. The main concern will be fog on both Thursday and Friday mornings across much of the tri-state, which could be dense. Temperatures will average several degrees above normal, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s.

LONG TERM [Saturday Through Wednesday].

A shortwave moves through the Tennessee Valley Saturday into Sunday and effectively breaks down the high pressure ridge. An increase in mid and high level clouds is expected with dry weather maintained.

Late in the weekend into early next week, the large scale flow becomes southwest in advance of a cold front, which is progged to move through the tri-state area on Monday and Monday Night. We have kept the forecast dry other than a 20 percent PoP near the Emerald Coast on Monday. However, it's uncertain how far south and east the air mass will moisten, and PoPs could increase in later forecasts across much of the tri-state area. Another cold front is expected to move across the area on Wednesday, with a chance of showers across much of the region. No appreciable cold air masses through the period, with average temperatures remaining above normal.

MARINE.

Light winds and low seas are expected through the weekend and will lead to favorable boating conditions.

FIRE WEATHER.

Surface high pressure will be moving eastward into the southeast on Thursday, and is expected to remain in place through the weekend. This will lead to low dispersions over the next several days as winds will remain light with high pressure overhead. Minimum RH values will remain in the low 40s to mid 50s through the weekend. Although winds will remain light, and minimum RH values are high, drying conditions are expected to continue. Given the extended dry conditions, and forecasted dry conditions likely to continue, fuels will be dry across the region, and could lead to potential fire weather concerns down the road.

HYDROLOGY.

No hydrology concerns are expected through the next 7 days with mostly dry conditions forecast.

SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT.

Spotter activation is not requested. However, spotters are always encouraged to safely report significant weather conditions when they occur (while following all local, state, and CDC guidelines) by calling the office or tweeting us @NWSTallahassee.
