Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1208 PM CDT Wed May 21 2025
New AVIATION
KEY MESSAGES
- A cold front will move through overnight into tomorrow morning that will bring a chance for rain along with the cooler nights and less humid days through the later half of the week.
SHORT TERM
(Today through Friday night)
Issued at 320 AM CDT Wed May 21 2025
The cold front has moved across much of the area and is now draped across coastal Texas and southwest Louisiana. As this front continues to move south, it is expected to stall along the coast and will be the focal point for convection in the morning. This afternoon and overnight the front will continue to push south into the Gulf where it will eventually wash out.
Behind the front, a cool, dry airmass will bring nicer weather across the region. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s, but we will quickly warm back into the 90s on Thursday and Friday.
LONG TERM
(Saturday through Wednesday)
Issued at 320 AM CDT Wed May 21 2025
During the weekend, the weather pattern will be busy as several frontal boundaries move across the region. The first will be our cold front from yesterday that will lift from the Gulf as a warm front on Saturday. This will bring a surge of moisture northward and will bring summer conditions to the region with highs pushing into the 90s areawide. The high temperatures and humidity will lead to pop-up showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. Early next week a second cold front will move across the region. This front will bring more showers and thunderstorms while dropping our temperatures down into the 80s.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1205 PM CDT Wed May 21 2025
Most of the storms have moved south of the terminals with the exception of KLFT and KARA. These sites will continue with VCTS through the afternoon. All sites should see Cigs increasing in the wake of the front.
MARINE
Issued at 320 AM CDT Wed May 21 2025
For mariners the main concern will be widespread convection along the coast this morning and into the afternoon. Through the weekend winds will remain light, around 10 knots, and seas will remain below 3 feet.
