NEAR TERM
Issued at 145 PM EDT Tue May 13 2025
For the latest NE FL and SE GA Daily Key Messages please visit: https:// www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf
Scattered showers and isolated storms are currently moving through the area. Activity is expected to continue to develop along the boundaries of a weak trough sagging over the area and the Gulf breeze as it moves inland, mainly for locations along and north of the I-10 corridor into SE GA. Further showers and storms may develop as the Gulf and Atlantic breeze merge near the I-95 corridor and towards the coast during the mid to late afternoon hours. Gusty winds and brief heavy downpours will be possible as storms develop. With passing showers/storms during peak heating times, daytime highs over SE GA will be limited to the lower 80s.
For locations along the I-95 corridor, highs will rise to the upper 80s. Activity will wane by the evening hours. Overnight lows will be in the lower 60s for interior locations, with coastal locations in the mid to upper 60s. Another period of patchy fog will be possible once again during the early hours on Wednesday for areas which received the highest amounts of rainfall during the past few days.
SHORT TERM
(Wednesday through Thursday night)
Issued at 145 PM EDT Tue May 13 2025
Through mid week the pattern will transition with only a low chance of showers possible Wednesday evening as a shortwave ripple dives quickly through the area. Behind that feature, upper ridging will begin to overtake the area through Thursday. Light offshore flow will pin the Atlantic sea breeze closer to the beaches and delay the inland push. That will promote widespread highs in the low 90s by Thursday afternoon. Low temps each night are expected to fall to the low/mid 60s under mostly clear skies. As shallow moisture is replenished by the Gulf Wednesday afternoon, patchy inland fog development will become more likely, particularly near the I-75 corridor Thursday morning.
LONG TERM
(Friday through next Tuesday)
Issued at 145 PM EDT Tue May 13 2025
The region will be locked into a stagnant large scale pattern this weekend as high pressure stacks across the region. At this surface, a persistent ridge axis will lay to the south, across southern Florida, through the period, allowing a multi-day period of westerly flow. Increasing subsidence offered by the ridging along with reduced low/mid level moisture will curtail substantial rain chances.
Temperatures rise into the weekend peaking Saturday and Sunday as a frontal boundary stalls just to the north and local gradients are squeezed. Resultant increasing westerly winds will lead to deeper mixing and daily high temperatures that will challenge records topping out in the mid 90s. Given the offshore flow, the sea breeze will be pinned through the period and even the beaches will be quite hot each afternoon, with heat index readings potentially reaching triple digits.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 145 PM EDT Tue May 13 2025
Showers and storms continue through the afternoon hours, with showers affecting GNV and JAX during the first couple of hours of the TAF period. Variable winds during the heavier downpours. Activity will dwindle around 00Z/01Z, with winds becoming light. Some BR possible for the inland TAF sites during the early morning hours around 06Z to 09Z, clearing by 12Z.
MARINE
Issued at 145 PM EDT Tue May 13 2025
Dry air begins to filter in as the cold front continues to move further out into the Atlantic, helping to clear out much of the convective activity out over the water. However, a few showers will still be possible in the afternoon hours as a weak trough moves through the the area. Chances for rain and possibly a few isolated storms will generally stay below 30% and drop below 10-15% after sunset. Weak high pressure will then settle over the area to the end of the week with prevailing winds from the south to southwest.
Rip Currents: Lingering elevated swells will continue high risk of rip currents for NE FL beaches through this evening. Moderate risk prevails elsewhere.
