New UPDATE, AVIATION

UPDATE
Issued at 1226 PM CDT Wed May 21 2025

Sent an update about 30 minutes ago to handle short term precipitation, temperature and dew point trends. Area of convection along the Interstate 10/12 corridors has weakened over the last 90 minutes, but still expect patches of rain/thunder to continue for the next several hours. About the only area that may see much in the way of sunshine this afternoon would be southwest Mississippi.

SHORT TERM
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 340 AM CDT Wed May 21 2025

Cold front currently bisecting the area this morning. This front should stall along the coast around or just after daylight today.
This is where it will stay through Thu. There is a chance that a few sh/ts develop along this boundary today. Any activity will slowly decay along this boundary over the next 24 hours. The rain will be beneficial for those that get it.

LONG TERM
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 340 AM CDT Wed May 21 2025

The muggy heat comes back during the day Fri as this boundary moves back to the north. A new front will begin to move in from the NW by the start of the new week. This will cause some sh/ts to develop well ahead of this front becoming more numerous as the front moves into the area Mon and Tue. This should cause the best chance of rainfall across the area. Numbers supporting severe storms are higher to the north and NW of the area for Monday but there are some evidence for supporting at least a low risk of severe with this front.

AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1226 PM CDT Wed May 21 2025

All terminals were VFR at forecast issuance time. However, scattered SHRA/TSRA continued along the Interstate 10/12 corridors. MVFR ceilings and IFR visibilities are possible with any direct impacts. Not seeing much in the way of wind with any of the convection, and have dropped it from the previously amended TAFs. Most convection should dissipate toward sunset.

MARINE
Issued at 340 AM CDT Wed May 21 2025

Winds will start to ease this morning and shift to SW as a cold front approaches. The front will stall near or at the coast today causing winds to become weak and erratic until Fri when the front moves back north and winds become SE again around 10-15kt. There is a low but credible chance of storms with this front which could cause winds and seas to rapidly rise in and around them. South to SE winds will remain through the weekend but should remain manageable around 10-15kt.
