SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Sunday night)
Issued at 150 PM CDT Sat Jun 21 2025
Key Message:
- Isolated showers and thunderstorms through this evening.
Southeasterly flow today continues to bring warm and humid conditions to South Central Texas. The highest PWATs reside over the western half of the area today with a slightly drier conditions east. This aligns well where isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed and are forecast to continue through this evening. Have upped PoPs slightly for this afternoon mainly along and south of I-10 where activity is most favored.
Thunderstorms will produce heavy rain and some gusty wind, but no severe weather is expected. Gusty south to southeast wind will continue through this evening for most, though breezy conditions may continue in the west overnight.
Low clouds will develop again early Sunday with lows from the low to mid 70s. Sunday will be similar to today with increasing wind in the morning and highs mainly in the 90s. With even less forcing tomorrow, have continued to keep PoPs below 15 percent across the area. If isolated activity were to form, the western half of the CWA continues to be favored in models where the highest moisture will reside.
LONG TERM
(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 150 PM CDT Sat Jun 21 2025
- Near normal high temperatures and above normal low temperatures.
- Low rain chances each afternoon and evening from the Coastal Plains to the I-35 Corridor.
The synoptic scale weather pattern for the upcoming week will be fairly stagnant with a broad trough over the western U.S. and a ridge over the eastern half of the country. Southerly to southeasterly flow from the surface into the mid levels of the atmosphere will persist. With a continued supply of moisture, daytime heating, and some weak upper disturbances, we should see a chance for afternoon and early evening convection mainly across the Coastal Plains into the I-35 Corridor each day. We have mainly a persistence forecast for temperatures through the long term period. Highs will be near normal. Lows will be above normal with high dewpoints and some overnight cloudiness.

Issued at 1222 PM CDT Sat Jun 21 2025
VFR conditions have returned to the area and are expected to continue through this evening before MVFR ceilings redevelop overnight into Sunday morning. South to southeasterly wind will be gusty today with the strongest wind along the Rio Grande where gusts up to 30-35 knots are forecast this afternoon. At I-35 terminals, gusts will be mainly 20-25 knots. Winds decrease at I-35 terminals this evening but gusts may continue at DRT. There remains a 20 percent chance for isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms at SAT/SSF/DRT today, but confidence is too low to include this mention in the TAF.
