Synopsis for pascagoula to atchafalaya river out 60 nm -
the upper and surface low pressures that have been plaguing the area for several days will exit the area by Tuesday morning. Westerly winds in most coastal waters will persist through mid week as a surface high pressure center slides across the center of the gulf. Once that high pressure reaches the eastern gulf, the local waters should start to see more onshore flow. Wind speeds throughout the forecast period will vary but generally be around 10 to 15 knots with short term periods of 15 to 20 knots.

NEW AVIATION
SHORT TERM
(This evening through Tuesday night)
Issued at 255 PM CDT Mon May 12 2025
Tonight through the Wednesday morning, conditions will be quiet overall as high pressure builds in over the area. Generally, as southerly flow returns, humidity will gradually be reintroduced to the area as well. Temperatures will start to increase with highs Tuesday in the mid 80s. No accumulated precipitation is expected in the short term forecast. MSW
LONG TERM
(Wednesday through Sunday night)
Issued at 255 PM CDT Mon May 12 2025
As high pressure continues to build over the area and southerly flow dominates, humidities and temperatures will be on a warming trend through the week. The high temperatures Wednesday and Thursday will be in the upper 80s while Friday through the weekend, temperatures will be approaching the low 90s. Heat index values will be approaching 100 degrees as we head into the weekend as well. Looking at the models, little to no accumulated precipitation is expected in the long term forecast. The Euro in particular emphasizes more zonal flow aloft for the weekend pattern, so we can't rule out the chance just yet of an isolated shower or two over the weekend. But if that occurs, it would be quite brief and localized in scale (PoPs around 10-20%). The more likely consensus at this point is that the ridge continues to dominate and we continue these warm and drier conditions.
Consequently, be careful of the heat because this time of year it can sneak up on folks. We are at the beginning of summer, and people are not yet fully adjusted to the warmer temperatures, especially after the cool snap we just have been experiencing. The key is to stay hydrated, wear loose fitting clothing, and take breaks if needed. MSW

VFR conditions through the cycle for all terminals, except MCB where some VIS reductions will be possible around sunrise on Tuesday. This should easily mix out after sunrise with VFR continuing through the cycle. Winds will be light and variable mostly at least until Tuesday afternoon where southerly winds will likely develop...mostly less than 10kt. (Frye)
