Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Mobile AL 250 AM CDT Mon Apr 13 2026

KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 250 AM CDT Mon Apr 13 2026
- Moderate to extreme drought, with little to no rain over the next 7 days, will exacerbate wildfire activity.
- Patchy to areas of fog development, some of which could be dense, is possible over the next few nights.
- A moderate rip current risk is expected for coastal Alabama and northwest Florida beaches through midweek.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 1244 AM CDT Mon Apr 13 2026
There's really not much to text home about as upper ridging persists over the southeast states and Gulf throughout the week.
The only exception is a single fast moving shortwave moving due east across the Tennessee River Valley Thursday afternoon and evening. No rain is expected for our area with this feature as moisture and forcing will be rather limited. Light southerly surface winds will occur everyday this week as a surface ridge remains intact across the southeast states and much of the Gulf.
High temperatures inland will reach the middle 80s today through Thursday and likely reach the upper 80s on Friday and Saturday.
These highs will be about 5 to 10 degrees above normal today through Thursday and 7 to 12 degrees above normal on Friday and Saturday. Lows inland will be in the middle 50s to around 60 degrees through Tuesday night and in the upper 50s to lower 60s Wednesday night through the remainder of the forecast. Coastal lows will range from 60 to 65 degrees through Tuesday night and then in the middle 60s through the remainder of the forecast.
Patchy to areas of fog are expected over the next several nights.
Visibilities are expected to lower to between 1 to 3 miles across much of the area late overnight into early morning. Some patchy dense fog cannot be ruled out.
Beach Forecast: A Moderate Risk of rip currents will continue through Thursday. /22
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1244 AM CDT Mon Apr 13 2026
VFR conditions will gradually give way to IFR and eventually LIFR conditions mainly across interior parts of southcentral Alabama as fog develops. LIFR and even some local VLIFR visbys will be possible just prior to daybreak with coastal areas remaining at VFR. Conditions will quickly return to areawide VFR by mid morning. Winds will remain light out of the south becoming light and variable overnight. BB-8
MARINE
Issued at 250 AM CDT Mon Apr 13 2026
A light to moderate southeasterly flow continues through Wednesday, becoming more southerly by Thursday. BB-8
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 1240 PM CDT Sun Apr 12 2026
Little to no relief is expected for our ongoing drought situation as warm and dry conditions continue over the next 7 days. Although afternoon humidity values and 20 foot wind speeds remain below Red Flag criteria, the worsening drought will continue to lead to an elevated fire risk across the area. /96
