UPDATE
Issued at 1151 AM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025

Isolated showers and thunderstorms have developed along our eastern border. Short term models suggest this activity will persist until the mid-afternoon. We have added slight chance POPs over our eastern counties for the next hours.

SHORT TERM
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 217 AM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025

Radar shows some light showers just north of our area. Will add slight chances for the pre-dawn hours across our far northern areas.
Subtropical ridging remains over our area today. Subsidence along with a seasonably moist airmass will inhibit convective development keeping rain out of the forecast. Model trends have backed off in showing an outflow boundary moving to near our area from the north tonight into Thursday morning. However, cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm or two over the northern parts of Llano and Burnet counties. Ridging shifts a little to the north on Thursday. Slightly weaker subsidence with an increase in moisture is expected. This allows for isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms due to heating and the seabreeze mainly near the Coastal Plains where deeper moisture will be found. Moist soils and vegetation maintain near average temperatures and elevated afternoon heat index values.

LONG TERM
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 217 AM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025

Subtropical ridging shifts over the lower Mississippi Valley to the eastern states as upper level troughing takes hold over the western states this weekend through the middle of next week. This allows for deeper lower level flow advecting moisture from the Gulf of America and the Caribbean Sea. Heating and the seabreeze remain the only forcing mechanisms for convective development in spite of a favorable moisture profile and much weaker subsidence. Model trends for the previously mentioned inverted trough now show it passing too far to our south and southwest for any influence. Isolated mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly near the Coastal Plains this weekend into early next week. As moisture deepens, isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible as far inland as the I-35 corridor by the middle of next week. The increased atmospheric moisture should slow the drying of the soils and vegetation. As a result, seasonable temperatures and elevated afternoon heat index values continue through the middle of next week.

AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1225 PM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025

Southerly to southeasterly winds have strengthened and become gusty at all terminals. This will continue through the afternoon. Gusts should diminish around sunset. Low level moisture will continue to move into the region, and MVFR ceilings will develop overnight. VFR conditions will return by late morning Thursday.
