UPDATE
Issued at 753 AM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

For the latest NE FL and SE GA Daily Key Messages please visit: https:// www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf

Radar has shown a narrow band of light showers approaching our wrn GA counties, not forecast by models. Will include a short-term 20 POP for this band next few hours as it moves east while gradually diminishing, as some locations could get measurable precip.
Otherwise latest guidance doesn't show much in way of precip potential Today. Satellite has widespread mid and high clouds over the area this morning...but should see enough insolation later in the day to realize substantial warming to reach forecast high temperatures.

NEAR TERM
(Today through Tonight)
Issued at 318 AM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

For the latest NE FL and SE GA Daily Key Messages please visit: https:// www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf

Sfc analysis shows high pressure off to the northeast of the region with a light southeast to east flow regime. An inverted coastal trough noted some 10-30 miles offshore oriented southwest to northeast, and depicted well by ASCAT wind data. Radar has been showing a few echoes offshore east of the trough, which are expected to stay away from the coast given the mean layer flow below 20 kft from the southwest. Temps are much milder tonight compared to last night given the changed flow pattern, with much more cloudiness as well and patches of fog, with the fog dissipating by about 9 AM. For rest of today, a weak warm front will lift through the area but not much in the way of any precip but additional cloudiness staying around today, mainly at mid and upper levels. The main result will be much warmer temps with highs in the 70s to lower 80s, warmest across parts of northeast FL. It is anticipated temps will be at least 2-3 degrees shy of any record highs today despite the decent warm advection regime. Sfc winds will be light near 10 mph from the south, with some backing of wind to the southeast in the aftn at the coast due to an Atlantic sea breeze. Tonight, models show well- defined shortwave trough rotating southwest to northeast from the GOMEX to the FL panhandle, GA, and AL. This feature will provide good ascent for elevated rain chances, highest across southeast GA.
HRRR shows more patchy rain moving into northeast FL than the other models. Any very isolated t-storm activity late tonight over the northwest zones should be rather sparse and short-lived. In addition, with moist low levels, light winds, and potential for advective fog, have placed in patchy fog for the coastal areas including part of the nearshore coastal waters, and also into Clay, Putnam, and Marion counties. Stratus and fog are also supported in the 00z HRRR guidance. Min temps will be very mild in the lower to mid 60s for most areas.

SHORT TERM
(Saturday through Sunday night)
Issued at 318 AM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to develop over the forecast area this weekend as high pressure moves off to the northeast and moist southwesterly flow will build in ahead of an advancing cold front moving in from out of the northwest. Potential for stronger storms to develop by the end of the weekend in the easternmost portions over inland southeast Georgia. The frontal boundary is expected to pass through the forecast area Sunday night into Monday morning. High temperatures over the weekend will be in the 70s and 80s with a gradual cooling trend starting on Sunday in conjunction with the passing of the cold front. Overnight low temperatures will similarly drop by the end of the weekend with min temps in the 50s late Sunday night.

LONG TERM
(Monday through Thursday)
Issued at 318 AM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

High pressure conditions will dominate the weather pattern for next week with dry weather expected through the end of the week. High pressure associated with the cold air mass will press southward by midweek bringing clearing skies and breezy northwesterly winds.
Cooling trend will continue through next week with temperatures dropping to be well below the seasonal average by the later part of the week.

AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1141 AM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

VFR conditions through this evening, with just occasional mid/high level clouds streaming over the TAF sites. S to SE winds 6-10 kts expected through the afternoon.

The more challening part of the TAF forecast comes after Midnight.
There is considerable uncertainty as to the timing and extent of low cloudiness and possibly fog. A few runs ago, model guidance didn't show much at TAF sites late Tonight. The latest run suddenly shows low CIGs and reduced visibilities at several TAF sites. The best chance of the latter appears to be KSSI and KSGJ where some sea fog could be advected over these sites late Tonight, continuing Saturday morning. For inland TAF sites, 18z TAFs will include some low CIGs after 08z that will decrease during the morning Saturday. Confidence in this solution is not high at the moment, but hopefully will increase for later forecast issuances.

MARINE
Issued at 318 AM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

No headlines at this time with mean flow from the south at about 10- 15 kt through Saturday with seas near 2-4 ft, though a weak trough in the area today may yield some higher south wind offshore beyond about 30-40 nm. Some patchy fog will be possible over the nearshore waters this morning and again later tonight/Saturday morning given that air temps, dewpoints, and water temps will be within 1-2 degrees of each other. The fog is supported by some of the model guidance. Winds will increase more from the southwest Saturday night through Sunday night ahead of an approaching cold front. The front will sweep through area waters Sunday night, and into north central FL by 12z Monday. Winds will be northwesterly Monday into Tuesday in the wake of the front.

Rip Currents: Low to moderate risk of rip currents at area beaches today, with the moderate risk for northeast FL beaches both today and Saturday, and primarily low risk for southeast GA.

HYDROLOGY
Issued at 318 AM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

Some higher-end total rainfall amounts possible over interior southeast GA during the period from this evening through Sunday night, where estimating localized rainfall amounts up to 3-4 inches per NBM guidance (90th percentile), but more likely going to be 1-2 inches. This may cause some localized flooding on streets or poor drainage areas.
