Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Mobile AL 710 PM CDT Tue Jun 9 2026

New UPDATE, AVIATION

KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 708 PM CDT Tue Jun 9 2026

- Heat index values will increase late in the week into the weekend with values of 100 to 105 expected.

- Risk for rip currents increases to MODERATE late this week into the weekend for the northwest Florida beaches.

UPDATE
Issued at 708 PM CDT Tue Jun 9 2026

Isolated slow-moving showers and storms over eastern portions of the forecast area are diminishing with the loss of daytime heating.
Patchy, locally dense fog is possible during the early morning hours on Wednesday, generally inland and south of the Hwy 84 corridor.
Otherwise, the forecast remains on track. 98/25

DISCUSSION
Issued at 158 PM CDT Tue Jun 9 2026

Isolated showers continue across far eastern portions of the area this afternoon in a zone of higher deep layer moisture and weaker upper ridging. These showers and isolated thunderstorms will quickly end this evening with patchy fog likely developing again overnight. An upper level ridge will build eastward across the area later today into tonight and continue across the region through the end of the week. Meanwhile, a drier mid/upper level airmass will move into the area from the west and this will likely keep much of the area rain-free tomorrow and Thursday. The ridge weakens late in the week into the weekend as a weak front moves south into the Tennessee Valley. The weakening ridge along with increasing moisture will bring a return of diurnally driven scattered showers and thunderstorms for the weekend.

Temperatures will be on the increase as we move into the middle to latter half of the week with highs topping out in the mid to low 90s for inland areas and upper 80s at the beaches late this week. Heat index values will rise to 100-105 once we get late in the week and into the weekend.

Beach Forecast - The risk for rip currents remains low through Thursday for the coastal Alabama beaches. Probabilistic guidance begins to trend upward late in the week with a MODERATE risk expected by Friday afternoon for the northwest Florida beaches.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 708 PM CDT Tue Jun 9 2026

VFR conditions are expected through most of the period. The exception could be late tonight into early Wednesday with areas of patchy fog where drops to IFR or lower are possible. Patchy fog is most likely in the 09-13z timeframe, generally inland and south of the Hwy 84 corridor. Light and variable winds tonight will become southeasterly to southerly at 5-10 knots on Wednesday. 98/25

MARINE
Issued at 158 PM CDT Tue Jun 9 2026

No impacts expected other than locally higher winds and seas possible near thunderstorms. /13
