WHAT HAS CHANGED
The Aviation Section has been updated for the latest 12Z TAF issuance.
KEY MESSAGES
- 1) Dry conditions and seasonable temperatures expected into next week.
DISCUSSION
KEY MESSAGE 1: Dry conditions and seasonable temperatures expected into next week.
Rather pleasant fall conditions build across the region as surface high pressure builds in from the west-northwest today. Afternoon highs temperatures will range from the lower to mid 70s, warmest across southeast Georgia, with upper 60s to lower 70s along the area beaches. Overnight into Monday, clear skies and light winds will allow for radiational cooling to bring us back down into the lower to upper 40s across the region away from the coast, and into the lower to mid 50s along the coast. Will again be watching for the potential for fog as temperatures approach dew point temperatures, with guidance suggesting highest chances for fog across southeast Georgia.
Expect much of the same to continue into the middle of the week, with temperatures slowly climbing back up into the mid/upper 70s to lower 80s by Tuesday. Overnight lows will remain fairly similar, in the lower to mid 40s away from the coast and in the lower/mid 50s on the immediate coastline. A fast moving cold front looks to move through the region sometime late Thursday/early Friday. This may bring a period of light showers on Thursday ahead of the front, with cooler and breezy conditions expected on Friday.
AVIATION /12Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/
VFR conditions expected at KCHS/KJZI/KSAV through 12Z Monday.
However, light/calm winds could set the stage for shallow fog late night into daybreak Monday, with the greatest risk across Southeast Georgia. Confidence remains too low to include flight restrictions at the terminals with the latest TAF issuance.
Extended Aviation Outlook: VFR during the daytime, with visibility restrictions possible during the late overnight into early morning hours on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
MARINE
Sunday through Thursday: Surface high pressure will prevail across the Southeast U.S. today into the first half of next week, bringing a light to perhaps gentle breeze. Seas will be 3-5 ft on Sunday.
On Monday, seas are expected to subside to 2-3 ft within 20 nm and 3- 4 ft for the 20-60 nm waters, then persisting through the middle of next week. Winds pick up on Thursday ahead of an approaching cold front, becoming breezy out of the southeast with gusts to near 30 knots during the afternoon hours, with 4 to 6 foot waves building into the region. Small Craft Advisories will likely be needed.
