SYNOPSIS
Showers will continue today from the coast to the mountains with the greatest coverage across San Diego County with less to the north. The showers will decrease from the northwest tonight and end early Friday. Then dry for Saturday into the middle of next week with a warming trend. Weak offshore flow at times may bring some locally gusty northeast winds near the coastal slopes of the mountains.
DISCUSSION
FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES...
Light showers continue off and on this morning, mostly in San Diego County. Rainfall totals have been highest in the San Diego County mountains, where over a half an inch has fallen. Palomar Mountain has recorded the most with 0.83" from yesterday evening through this morning.
The extensive cloud cover kept overnight lows fairly mild for most locations. The thermometer will be short today, with highs west of the mountains only reaching into the upper 50s to low 60s today, which is about 5 to 10 degrees below average. Highs today in the mountains will be even more below average, up to 15 degrees below average.
A weak low pressure system will continue progressing inland through California today, maintaining the off and on showers, and the cloudy and cool conditions through today. Rainfall accumulation likely won't amount to much, but highest totals are expected in San Diego County. North of San Diego County, little, if any, shower activity will occur today.
The showers will decrease in coverage tonight as the low progresses east. Clouds will also clear out somewhat tonight, and it should be a cooler night compared to last night with clearer skies.
High pressure will begin building in from the southwest on Friday, bringing drier and warmer conditions this weekend and for much of next week. Weak offshore flow will kick up at times Saturday through Wednesday, with the strongest offshore flow occurring Tuesday into Wednesday. With the offshore flow, temperatures will gradually increase west of the mountains. The warmest days look to be Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs 10 to 15 degrees above average.
Beyond the middle of next week, there is quite the spread in the ensembles on the timing and amplitude of a series of low pressure systems moving over the West. There does look to be a cooling trend for the end of next week, but how much cooling remains to be seen at this time.
