Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Charleston SC 715 AM EDT Sat Apr 11 2026
WHAT HAS CHANGED
The Aviation Section has been updated for the 12Z TAF issuance.
The Small Craft Advisory for the 20 to 60 nm offshore GA waters has been canceled.
KEY MESSAGES
- 1) Warming temperatures and rain-free conditions through this weekend and into next week.
DISCUSSION
.KEY MESSAGE 1: Warming temperatures and rain-free conditions through this weekend and into next week.
A deep layered ridge will build over the area this weekend and prevail through much of next week, maintaining continued dry weather and above normal temperatures. Unfortunately we expect no improvement to the ongoing Severe to Exceptional Drought across the Southeast.
AVIATION /12Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/
Prevailing VFR through the 12Z TAF as clear skies dominate the forecast at KCHS/KJZI/KSAV. There is a risk of some patchy ground fog late tonight into Sunday morning across SE GA. Given how late this would be in the 12Z TAF did not include mention of MIFG at this time.
Extended Aviation Outlook: VFR.
MARINE
Today: Expect high pressure to dominate across the local waters as easterly swell continues to taper back. Northwesterly winds at 5 to 10 kt will continue through the morning, before veering out of the southeast by the afternoon.
Sunday through Thursday: As high pressure shifts more offshore throughout the period, marine conditions will steadily improve as the northeast gradient continues to weaken. Expect seas to range from 2 to 3 ft in the nearshore and 3 to 4 ft in the outer Georgia waters. Marine conditions should remain almost tranquil through early next week and no additional concerns to report with this forecast update.
Rip Currents: A Moderate Risk of rip currents is in effect for today along the Georgia beaches.
