New Short Term, Aviation
KEY MESSAGES
- Seasonably hot and humid conditions are forecast into early next week with little chance for rainfall.
SHORT TERM
/NEW/ /Through Friday Evening/
The axis of a strong mid level ridge will pass from west to east directly overhead tonight, becoming centered over the Lower Mississippi Valley on Friday. North and Central Texas will remain under its influence, however, with the only noticeable difference being a 5 to 10 MPH speed increase in the south winds compared to today. Seasonably warm weather can otherwise be expected with lows in the 70s and highs in the 90s.
Will keep an eye on the line of storms approaching the Arklatex, but subsidence associated with the ridge and loss of surface instability after sunset should shut it down before reaching Lamar County. Isolated seabreeze showers across Central Texas will also dissipate around or shortly after sunset.

LONG TERM
/Issued 1235 PM CDT Thu Jun 19 2025/ /Friday Night Onward/
The aforementioned ridge will be shunted into the eastern CONUS this weekend in response to the onshore movement of a deepening PACNW closed low. However, we will remain under the general influence of the ridge through the rest of the forecast period, with warm, humid, and mostly dry conditions continuing. The diurnal inland-moving seabreeze will promote afternoon rain chances mainly to our south each day, but there will remain low chances for isolated showers and storms for southern portions of Central Texas. Warm afternoon highs in the 90s are expected to continue alongside peak heat index values up to around 102 degrees. Make sure to stay hydrated and cool each afternoon, and avoid extended time outdoors in heat of the day.

/NEW/ /00Z TAFs/
A deck of stratocumulus will bring another round of MVFR to KACT overnight into Friday morning. These clouds should stay south of the Metroplex, though there is a 10 to 20 percent chance they will affect KDAL for a brief period as the deck slides to the northeast. Will keep an eye on it, but there is no plan to include cigs in any of the Dallas area TAFs at this time. Otherwise, light south winds tonight will increase to 10-15kt around midday Friday, with gusts of 25kt becoming common in the afternoon.
