KEY MESSAGES
Updated at 1216 PM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025
- Cooler today with a slight chance of thunderstorms this evening through tonight over most of the region.
- Generally hot and dry conditions through Saturday with storm chances returning Sunday into early next week.
SHORT TERM
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 201 AM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025
Winds will shift from southerly to northeasterly overnight as a cold front tracks across the area. These will further shift more easterly by afternoon. As such, high temperatures will drop by about 15-20 degrees from yesterday. Generally benign conditions are expected ahead of an upper ridge. However, the departing trough axis associated with the aforementioned front may still extend as far west as the southern Rolling Plains. This will bring some token forcing and combined with instability/SE turning surface flow, at least a slight chance of thunderstorms. Any severe should be limited and short-lived, with quiet conditions returning area-wide overnight into Thursday.
LONG TERM
(Thursday through Tuesday)
Issued at 201 AM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025
An upper ridge building in from the Southwest will bring hot and dry conditions through the remainder of the week. Friday and Saturday continue to look to be the hottest days, with highs nearing the triple-digits. A deeper trough will dig into the Intermountain West starting Sunday, helping to shift the aforementioned ridge off to our east. This will both slightly cool temperatures as well as lead to a more potentially active pattern with shower and thunderstorm chances early next week.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1216 PM CDT Wed Jun 18 2025
VFR and modest east winds are expected to prevail through this TAF period. There is a small chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the vicinity of any terminal this evening through tonight, but coverage of TS is expected to be very low with terminal impacts looking unlikely at this time.
LUB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
None.
