Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1031 PM PDT Fri Jun 13 2025
SYNOPSIS
Temperatures will gradually increase through the weekend, peaking on Sunday. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for lower elevations of southeastern California, southern Nevada, and northwestern Arizona. Meanwhile, expect breezy-to-gusty southwesterly winds each afternoon through the forecast period.
Temperatures will cool slightly early next week, but remain above normal through much of next week.
DISCUSSION
Today through Thursday.
A building area of high pressure over the southeastern Pacific Ocean will bring increasing heights across the Desert Southwest, resulting in above normal temperatures each day. Temperatures will peak on Sunday at 8 to 12 degrees above seasonal normals, with a forecast temperature of 108 for Las Vegas. "Major" HeatRisk is likely for most of the lower valleys of southern Nevada and southern Mohave County on Sunday along with a mix of "Moderate" and "Major" HeatRisk for portions of Death Valley. The current Extreme Heat Warning for Sunday still looks good and at this time there is no need to extend into Monday as most areas drop into at least the "Moderate" category. The areas included in the Extreme Heat Warning include, Death Valley National Park, western San Bernardino County, far southern Nye County, lower elevations of Clark County including Las Vegas, southern Mohave County, and the Colorado River Valley including the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. If planning to spend time outdoors this weekend, avoid the hottest parts of the day, bring plenty of water, and wear sunscreen.
A weak trough will push into the region early next week bringing temperatures down slightly, but also bringing increasing southwest winds. Most of the region will see wind gusts between 25-35 mph, but a few locations along the eastern Sierra slopes and the western Mojave Desert will see a 60-70% chance of wind gusts exceeding 40 mph. At this point, these higher gusts look to be fairly isolated, but we will continue to monitor to see if any wind headlines are needed. This will also result in increased fire concerns across the forecast area, so be aware of this if recreating outside with sparks or flames.
The "coolest" day will be Tuesday as the base of the trough moves through the Great Basin with temperatures only slightly above normal. This drop in temperatures will be short-lived as ridging begins to rebuild over the area bringing an increase in daily temperatures through the middle to end of next week. No threat of precipitation during the period.

Temperatures will exceed 100 degrees from 20Z to 04Z with temperatures topping out around 106 degrees.
