KEY MESSAGES

- Highs will warm into the lower 90s with overnight lows only cooling into the 70s each day this weekend into early next week.

- Low chances (10-20%) for isolated afternoon/evening showers and storms next week.
SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/
Issued at 200 AM CDT Sat Jun 21 2025
An upper-level ridge of high pressure and warmer air will remain over the region this weekend. The center of the upper level ridge has pushed into eastern Missouri and eastward. Mild conditions are occurring across the area early this morning, with temperatures currently in the upper 70s to the lower 80s.
Lows this morning will only cool into the lower to middle 70s.
Highs this afternoon will again warm into the lower 90s. A dry air mass has also moved over much of the area from the west.
Some mixing will occur today, causing south to southwesterly winds to increase and remain gusty today, with gusts around 20 to 30 mph occurs at times into this evening. The mixing will also keep dewpoints in the upper 60s to the lower 70s. As a result, afternoon heat index values in the 95 to 105 range will occur today. The drier air mass in the lower and middle levels of the atmosphere will limit instability and will keep the area dry today.
Lows tonight into Sunday morning will again only cool into the 70s, with highs again warming into the lower 90s Sunday afternoon. The warmest readings will occur across portions of central Missouri and the eastern Ozarks. A dry air mass will remain in place across much of the area in the lower and middle levels of the atmosphere, but some moisture will try to move back into the far eastern portions of the area Sunday afternoon. Gusty south to southwesterly winds of around 20 to 30 mph will occur again on Sunday.
Afternoon heat index values will reach into the 95 to 105 range Sunday afternoon. Most of the area will remain dry across the area again on Sunday, but with slightly better moisture across portions of far south central Missouri, an isolated afternoon pop up shower/storm may be possible. However, better potential will remain east of the area, so most locations across the area should remain dry. Will continue the Heat Advisory as is from this afternoon through early Sunday evening.
LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/
Issued at 200 AM CDT Sat Jun 21 2025
The upper-level ridge will remain over the region early next week, but the center of the high will move off more to the east of the area. Highs will reach into the upper 80s to the lower 90s each day through the middle of next week. Dewpoints will decrease slightly, with afternoon heat index values in the middle 90s to around 100 expected during this time. There will be the potential for some afternoon/early evening isolated to scattered showers and storms each day next week.
An upper-level trough will move to the northeast late next week into next weekend and flatten the ridge over the region some.
Models are indicating that temperatures cool back to near normal for this time of year, in the middle to upper 80s.
A front may also try to move south into the area late this weekend into early next week, and could bring some more widespread rain chances to the area if the front can reach our area. However, models differ on just how far south the trough and front can make it. Some of the ensemble model members keep the front and trough further north as others bring them into the area. If the front remains further north, coverage of showers and storms late next week would be more isolated to scattered, compared to more widespread chances if the front and trough can further south into the area, which would bring slightly better coverage.
