Synopsis for the central california coast and bays including the Monterey bay..Greater farallones...and cordell bank national marine sanctuaries... A 1030 mb high centered 1000 miles west of cape mendocino will move closer to the coast through Monday. As a result, gusty northwest winds will continue over the coastal waters into midweek. Gale force gusts are possible along the big sur coast Monday afternoon and evening. Strong northwest winds will generate steep fresh swell resulting in hazardous seas conditions. A long- period southerly swell will continue through Monday before swell periods begin to subside.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sacramento CA 352 AM PDT Sun Jul 5 2020

SYNOPSIS. Dry weather with seasonable temperatures for the week.

DISCUSSION. Skies are clear across interior NorCal early this morning. Current temperatures are running 3 to 10 degrees warmer compared to readings observed early Saturday due to the lack of marine influence.

Seasonably hot and dry weather continues today as high pressure remains in control. Daytime temperatures are expected to peak in the upper 90s across the Valley, with 70s to 80s in the mountains. A few Valley locations may reach the century mark. Increased Delta flow returns tonight, which should allow temperatures to cool into the mid to upper 50s across marine influenced areas.

By early this week, ensembles depict lower heights aloft as an upper trough slowly deepens over the region. Thus, the marine layer will likely deepen with increased onshore flow and slightly below normal highs. An embedded dry shortwave pushing through NorCal on Monday will likely bring gusty south to west winds, mainly through the Delta and higher terrain in the afternoon and evening. Fire weather concerns are low with these winds as humidities will be increasing somewhat because of the onshore flow. However, grasses are cured in the Valley and lower foothills, so fire safety should always be practiced during this time of year.

Temperatures will remain near or slightly below normal through mid-week. Forecast highs in the Valley will be in the 90s, with upper 60s to mid 80s over the mountains. A dry pattern will continue through the period.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Thursday THROUGH Sunday). Ensemble means continue strong ridging over the central CONUS while maintaining a weak trough along the West Coast later in the week. Dry weather with temperatures close to average is expected to persist.

AVIATION. VFR conditions continue the next 24 hours. Surface wind gusts remain under 10 knots except 10-15 kts vicinity KSUU. Local southwest surface wind gusts 15-25 kts over higher terrain 20Z-02Z Monday, and increasing southwest 20-25 kts Carquinez Strait and west Delta after 00Z Monday.

STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES. None.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
