area forecast discussion
national weather service sacramento ca
233 pm pdt Sun aug 18 2019

Synopsis
Near or below average temperatures expected through early this
week. Gradual warming trend by mi-week with dry weather
continuing.

Discussion
Below normal temperatures continue across interior norcal, with
afternoon temperatures running 3 to 10 degrees cooler than 24
hours ago. This is due to a deep marine layer (about 3000 feet as
of this afternoon), and enhanced onshore flow continuing through
the delta. Model guidance continues to favor coastal stratus
through the delta region the next couple of nights mornings.

Otherwise, mostly clear skies will prevail.

Below normal temperatures will continue on Monday, with valley
locations in the mid 80s to mid 90s, and low 60s to low 80s over
the mountains. Gusty winds will continue across the delta with
20-30 mph speeds likely to be observed.

Looking beyond Monday, a gradual warming trend is expected through
the period. Temperatures will be right around average on Tuesday,
then trend above seasonal normals by mid- week. Most valley
locations should see temperatures generally in the mid to upper
90s, while highs up to around 102 are expected over the northern
sacramento valley by mid-week. Dry weather will continue through
the period.

Extended discussion (Thursday through Sunday)
A persistent high pressure pattern is settling in over the region
allowing for some seasonably warm temperatures. Many locations
are forecast to be 5 to 10 degrees above average with little day
to day change in temperatures through the extended period.

Aviation
Vfr conditions next 24 hours. Gusts to 30 kts delta vicinity.

Typical diurnal wind patterns for the summertime in ca. Local
gusts up to 15-20 kts from ksac northward through about 06z-09z
Monday.

Sto watches warnings advisories
None.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
